Little_Master Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I know I'm gonna get hammered for this post; but I'd like to express my views. Our batting is really strong and the only problem seems to be the batting order...we have too many good batsmen and its tough to select the right ones and provide them with the right slot. I think, this batting order might solve our problems 1. Sehwag 2. Sachin 3. Gambhir 4. Yuvi (can bowl) 5. Raina (can bowl) 6. Dhoni 7. Pathan (can bowl) 8. Bajji 9. Ashwin 10. Zak 11. Munaf To me it is evident that this batting line up is more balanced than the one we had today against SA. I totally agree that Kohli has done nothing wrong... in fact he has been a consistent batsman the last 6 months or so...however if Kohli is playing he needs to play 1 down and build an innings... unfortunately with the top 3 Indian batsmen playing well, his slot is being wasted. I do not think he can walk in and start slogging. I agree he is a good fielder....so is Raina. With the above line up, Dhoni can walk in at 4 if we lose 2 quick wickets and we can save Raina and Yusuf for the finishing in the end. To me this team is more balanced in terms of batting and bowling. As far as i am concerned it is a battle between Kohli and Gambhir for the no 3 slot and we need to pick one...the rest will fall in place automatically. I hope and pray that team India lifts itself from the position it is in and learns from the mistakes they've done in the last 2-3 matches. Good luck team India!!!
VRV Singh Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 It's not every match things will fall in place like this. Sachin and Sehwag blasting away and Gambhir continuing to lay a platform. Two wickets fall early - guaranteed you'd get a thread lamenting Kohli being dropped. It is strategy rather than personnel which has fecked us (semi-fecked vs the Dutch) Kohli is far from the problem, he has to play I would maintain that this is the right line-up...we just need to approach powerplays and crucial periods sensibly rather than doing shyt like promoting Yusuf over class batsmen and going gung-ho when we were scoring brilliantly prior.
hitman1980 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Yusuf needs to go .. no two ways abt tht .. Kohli has to stay .. He plays memorable inning once every 20-30 innings .. Plus his bowling is very very ordinary ..
zubinpepsi Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 If they pick Kohli, they shud play him at 3 or 4.. otherwise we r just wasting him....
hitman1980 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 WTH praygan ojha not included.. he is the best spinner we have.. this is just a crime to not include him.. Include him before bhajji ..
vvvslaxman Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Raina might come in. He is a multi situation player unlike Yusuf who is mainly there as a shock element who can take the game away singlehandedly.
Ravi. Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 We cant drop Kohli. Raina should come but inplace of Yusuf.
hitman1980 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 If they pick Kohli' date=' they shud play him at 3 or 4.. otherwise we r just wasting him....[/quote'] +1 .. Just don't mess up the batting order by sending pathan .. Dhoni did the same mistake against eng and repeated it again .. He is just getting very very rigid ..
Little_Master Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 If they pick Kohli' date=' they shud play him at 3 or 4.. otherwise we r just wasting him....[/quote'] i agree...if kohli plays he needs to play at no 3 or 4...no other spot.
vvvslaxman Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I have noticed this thing. Any time you send Yusuf out of the batting order to score quick runs he invariably ends up playing a much slower innings than a regular batsman. But when team is in trouble and nobody is scoring around and he goes in the end he just surprises us. He should not move up the order at all.
Ravi. Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 WTH praygan ojha not included.. he is the best spinner we have.. this is just a crime to not include him.. Include him before bhajji .. Yeah Ojha is a good oneday bowler.he is a wickettaker unlike Bhajji.
spectre Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I have said this before as well. With this present team, Gambhir and Kohli have to fight for that No.3 slot. Its not like Yuvraj or Raina cant do what Kohli is doing. Even Dhoni can slot upto No.4 and play a 80 strike rate innings. Its very easy to build an innings coming in at No.3 or 4 in such batting friendly conditions and top class openers providing great starts.
Little_Master Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 WTH praygan ojha not included.. he is the best spinner we have.. this is just a crime to not include him.. Include him before bhajji .. pardon my ignorance...is Ohja (Ohza per SG) in the squad?
Misu243 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Kohli and Yusuf are the two problem players in this line up. No matter what happens, Kohli should not be moved from his position. Sending Yusuf up is a drastic change. We need to stop being greedy for runs and play sensible cricket. Wasted 10 overs of a match just because of one stupid promotion of Yusuf...stupid captaincy by Dhoni..Kirsten must step in to correct this issue.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Drop Yusf and bring Raina. On his day Yusuf can be destructive and win matches on his own but those days are few and far between and also he's not as reliable as Raina. Kohli is in very good form and one of the few good fielders in the team and has done nothing wrong to deserve a place on the bench - he should not be dropped.
Little_Master Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 How I wish, MSD were to secretly read the posts from ICF:--D
saneindian Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 maybe dont tinker with the batting order at all. Show the faith in Kohli and ask him to go for shots when a good foundation has been laid. The so called felxibility hasn't worked till now and it should be no longer used.
riwi999 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I just don't understand the logic of sending Yusuf Pathan up the order when you have a very attacking (and proper) batsman like Kohli still to bat. If Kohli had been slow, I can understand but he himself gets runs very quickly. Today clearly that decision was a massive FAIL.
yoda Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Too late to make any changes. Raina isn't coming in for anyone after being benched for all the games so far. I don't see him playing against WI either.
Little_Master Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 may be for a starter we should try to bat out the 50 overs against WI...as of now, against the good teams we have fallen like a pack of cards after a good start.
