Like others have said previously, I don't get Dhoni's obsession with Chawla. He has hardly played in the last few years, not done much at domestic level and yet all of a sudden is parachuted not only into the World Cup squad, but has somehow become a regular. First I wouldn't put too much credence to the report - the article is an offshoot of a TimesNow report which is not credible methinks. It's highly unlikely the reporters would know what actually transpired and what the discussions were about - in fact they could be discussing the batting order or the 2nd pacer to support Zaheer. If the reports are true then BCCI and selectors should back off. BCCI is an administrative arm for handling cricket affairs and selectors are there to pick the squad for a tournament or series. Once that is done it's up to team management (coach, captain, a few senior players like Tendulkar) to decide what the team combination should be. Ultimately it's the captain who gets the blame for the results so he should be the one allowed to pick the team which plays. If selectors are not happy with the captain they can revisit the decision AFTER the series or tourney is over, not in the middle of the tournament. Meddling, interfering and undermining the captain doesn't get you anywhere and surely isn't the formula for success. I say wait and watch as these kind of reports and rumors come out when a team is not doing too well. If India beat WI comprehensively all these reports will be thrown out and Times of India & TimesNow will be celebrating the team as "world champions". There's no middle ground in the Indian media and they will do anything to increase their viewership, even if it means speculating and rumor mongering.

Aren't Dhoni and Bhajji really close? I think they bought some real estate together in Mumbai and have some business dealings there. Maybe, Dhoni wants to protect Bhajji's place in the Indian side. It is fine to play Ashwin for CSK (after all he is a Chennai boy) but at national level he becomes a threat to Bhajji. Don't underestimate the huge competition in the team for limited spots. Bhajji's much-improved batting is all fine but everybody knows his main job is bowling and he's falling short in that department consistently. Seeing this guy Tredwell yesterday made me almost ashamed of Bhajji. Even Tredwell was having some variety and troubling the batsmen.

Batting ability should never be considered for a bowling spot, especially for a team like India who is batting heavy anyways. The only time batting ability should come into the picture is if there are two bowlers of similar abilities and one of them is a much better batsman compared to the other. A goofy who has all the experience in the world, but can't seem to recall any even if his life depended on it. 3. A chubby faced no-show, low on confidence, not having played ODIs for over a year, laying eggs even against minnows. 4. An experienced front line bowler in tests and ODIs for ages, who can't stop throwing darts and has worse bowling stats than everyone but the egg laying fellow above. 5. A guy who has played less than 10 ODIs, who doesn't turn the ball much and is best known for what is a carrom ball, whatever the feck that means. 6. An old uncle who takes pride in bowling wicket to wicket, except when he decides to bowl a few gimmes just when the team needs him to contain. 7. A lone warrior who if injured would take the number of available bowlers who pick themselves in the playing XI to a big fat ZERO.
