http://www.rediff.com/cricket/2006/dec/12shah.htm BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said the Board has the "full power" to call back any player if he isn't performing. "Selection committee can always call anybody back and replace him with a new player. Board and selection committee have the full power in this regard. But first we would be watching the performance in the first Test," he told CNN-IBN. However, Shah's comments were played down by Vengsarkar, who is in South Africa to give the team management inputs on selection matters. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WTF is wrong with this guy? As if we don't have enough problems on the field.

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah first threaten them by saying u wont get paid... then say we will replace u in no time....etc etc and this when a little support will do world of good in a tough away series...

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah vengy has gone there to make sure his city type gets to open irrespective of the ducks he has been collecting.

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah maybe Vengsarkar is planning to play one last game. Jaffer got 2 ducks, Vengsarkar can match that.

in a way i think it is a good thing. remember the pak series where we opened with dravid just to accomodate ganguly? vengy also wants to make sure that gangs gets to play all 3 tests. Although vengsarkar going on the tour clearly means he want to oversee chappell and dravid's final XI selections, it has still been done professionally as opposed to these lowly threats by Shah.

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah If by some stroke of luck we do well in test series, assuming ganguly also chips in some runs, who gets the credit? Vengsarkar has made it clear that he will also be involved with selecting final XI, so does he get credit for selecting the best team? Should it be coach and captain who turned it all around ? or ganguly whos presence 'inspired' the team ? Same way if we have a bad series (looks like it) who will take the blame ? Vengsarkar for fiddling with team management and selection? Coach and captain will obviously take some blame? or will we blame ganguly for taking up kaifs place?

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah I hope vengy is ready to take the blame too if things don't work out .....as i am sure he will not abstain from the glory when things work out well.

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah As always, if we do well it will be due to the man who single handedly revived Indian cricket by taking us to solitary overseas test wins and innumerable finals reached (but lost). If we lose, all eyes will be on the Ungli man.

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah actually i am waiting for ganguly to score some runs cause then i want to open a thread titled 'Dravids inspires Ganguly to score xyz runs. Given that ganguly couldnt inspire himself to score runs during later half of his captaincy all credit goes to new captain. What a captain this Dravid. '

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah So, jf1, was it you who came up with the gem of a question on the old forum: "If ganguly could inspire everyone on the team, why couldn't he inspire himself?"

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah personally, i like tht message...... cajoling and coaching has not worked for our batters.... now, lets threaten and if they still dont perform, ask em to fack all the way back home...

Re: Players can be called back mid-series - Moronjan Shah bcci is turning into a big fool's circus :duh: TOI: The BCCI is planning to take their mantra of 'perform or perish' very seriously. After India lost the second ODI of the five-match series to South Africa in humiliating fashion in Durban, Board vice-president Shashank Manohar slammed the team and didn't want them "to be paid a single penny". Now, just days before the first Test starts at Johannesburg, Board secretary Niranjan Shah told a TV channel on Sunday night that the "non-performing" players can be called back in the middle of the series. Chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar, though, was quick to deny any such move calling it the "personal opinion of Shah". "Players can be recalled only if they are injured," Vengsarkar told a press conference on arrival in Johannesburg. Such a drastic step has never been taken in the history of Indian cricket. Hence, the statement was naturally met with disbelief and was summarily dismissed by other senior Board officials and even members of the selection committee. "If they have already decided then it's okay. Why are we here for? Anyway... Vengsarkar is there (in South Africa), it's his headache now," laughed off a selector. But Shah reiterated to TOI what he had said and claimed he was only "stating a position". "I did not say that 'I will recall the players'. What I had said was that the Board and the selection committee have the power to recall any player who does not perform," said Shah. The Board secretary added that the selectors had the power and it was up to them to exercise it. "The Board is giving them the power." But is it fair to jump to a conclusion after just one Test? "No I am not saying this after just one match. We have had the whole series to look at," said Shah. There were also rumours of standbys getting ready to be flown in, but the selectors dismissed such speculation. "We have not decided on any standbys. If we had, wouldn't the names have been announced?" said a selector. :hail:

With the only problme being that captain phoned in to sabotage the concerned player's selection.. novel way of inspiring indeed :hail:
