Did Viv Richards ever get hit on the head?

All the modern day top batsmen have been hit on the head by a lethal bouncer but they all had a helmet to protect them. As you all know, Viv Richards never wore a helmet, does anyone know if he ever got hit on the head with a ball?

Yeah he did on the side of the head. In fact, after his first tour of Aus facing Lillee and co, he had to consult a psychologist to get over some mental scars.

That was the 75/76 tour of Aus after his debut tour of India. He did so poorly in the first few tests. Then he was promoted to open in Adelaide or Melbourne (not sure which one). He got a hundred in the second dig that started a golden run for him. 1976 was his best ever year. He was awesome in 76.

Rodney Hogg was one of the sufferers over the years. In the 1979-80 series, his confidence was destroyed and he limped from the field with a back injury in the Melbourne Test after being mauled by Richards. This happened after Hogg hit Richards a painful blow in the face; the next ball went soaring into the stands for six and the massacre continued until Hogg left the field with figures of none for 59 from six overs. I have never seen Richards bat but I have to mention that test cricket back in the day would have been fantastic to watch. Fast bowlers like Marshall, Garner, Lilee, Thomson bowling on fast pitches without a limit on bouncers against batsmen like Gavaskar, Richards, Gooch, Gower who didnt have proper helmets or other protection. Scary for batsmen but exciting for viewers. I get the impression that the recent India Vs South Africa test series closely resembled a test series from the 70s or 80s in West Indies or England. For me, it was the best test series I've seen in my life. South African pacers versus Indian batsmen in fast, bouncy and swinging conditions and India still came out on top. I would watch a series like that any day over IPL or even the world cup. ICC should try to take test cricket back to how exciting it was in the past.
