He is still our most gifted batsman, was the second highest scoring batsman in the world cup. Averages 57 in ODIs with a strike rate of 94 in the last two years. Manny_Pacquiao Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 i cant believe u morons are talking about records and trophies and world cup 2015. sachin tendulkar loves playing cricket for india. thats whats its all about. he enjoys practicing every week, he likes being around other players - who are his best friends - in the dressing room, he likes playing football and scoring goals in training sessions, he likes walking out to bat in front of full houses and scoring runs that are appreciated by the entire country. he loves being part of a winning team. the man LIVES HIS DREAM every day, which is to be an indian cricketer. SIMPLE AS THAT. if he chooses to carry on, he will do so because of his love for the game and for the indian cricket team. thats it. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

Test cricket, I fully understand..he wants to play as long as Ponting is not retiring. Thats for your to think. And he knows very well - the day he wont feel passionate - he would gladly quit.

Show_stopper Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. Disagree. The preparedness of the team to handle bowling on Aus/NZ pitches without Sachin in the 2015 WC matters more. Clearly that can't happen overnight. So unless he is playing the next WC, the smart thing for Sachin to do ( from the team POV) would have been to retire. If not now...he should atleast retire from ODI when India visit Aus early next year.

You know guys like Kapil will clamor for him give up ODIs within couple of years max. I don't think he'll play past the ODIs in Australia. In any case, Kapil talking about retiring is like Salman Butt talking about integrity in cricket.

He has reached a stage in his career when nobody but he himself can decide when he wants to play and when he wants to rest for a series and when he wants to retire. There's absolutely no point in all this speculation. We know that at the very best there are only a few years of his cricket left (even in Test matches), so we should savor each and every one of those moments. He will decide when he has to go.

Remember what happened in/around 2007 and what followed that? He is in a position - the day he says (he wont) - that Kapil is a good commentator, Kapil's rate will double or otherwise.

Amazing to see lot of speculations on his retirement in Media, it looks like they are putting pressure on him to retire although he is willing to carry on. Who knows, if he is fit he could still play 2015 world-cup. He will be 41, so what? This is just a number, if he managers to keep fit I dont see why he can't play 2015 WC.
