Greg might have had vision and a path to take the team forward but boy did the execution of those plans fail! it was terrible how, like CricketTragic said, he used to use the media. 'leaking' reports, WTF? i dont understand how creating so much of doubt in people's mind was ever going to make them perform better. not to mention his anyone-can-bat-at-any-position crap. there is a reason why a settled batting lineups have worked all these years. i guess he should have understood that you don't need to reinvent the wheel to be a successful team, just make sure its working properly.

I think Greg is a brilliant cricketing mind. I think most of the cricketing world acknowledges that for him and his elder brother who was one of the greatest captains ever. But the problem is both are extremely bull headed. He came to India with prejudiced mindset and never understood how things rolled here. Ganguly is a problem I think for most coaches. And there was an issue of him declining as a batsman but Greg did not deal with it appropriately. In Australia, they are ruthless with their players. But in India you have to approach things differently. We were just not cut out for each other

It's easy to want every player to practice hard,work their ass off in fitness etc and basically always be the best that they can be. It's easier said than done. Ask Sachin the captain, who expected everyone to play like him. In a game of skill, there is always a leeway when it comes to fitness. Its not about asking players to work better, its should be about making them work better for themselves. Besides, too many changes in very little time hardly works well on the cricket field. Even Aus cannot handle that. Chapel demanded results. He wasn't willing to work for it.

Hmm. I would say he had a different modus operandi, which did not match ours. Here, the coach is supposed to be a guide and the captain is supposed to be the boss. Being manipulated must have really taken Greg aback because I don't think that would be the way the Aussie dressing room works. So he tried to take matters into his hands and pulled out the tough taskmaster cap. Didn't work in India. Could've worked elsewhere.
