It’s not the right pitch for Delhi

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/its-not-the-right-pitch-for-delhi/777990/0 Delhi Daredevils have played two games at home so far but bereft of any home advantage. And their predicament was further highlighted during the optional net session on Monday — less than 24 hours before they play Deccan Chargers — besides the main square with two out-of-favour batsmen and a battery of fast bowlers on a green top. More so as the glare from the adjacent bald wicket at the Ferozeshah Kotla — on which they play on Tuesday — reflected not just the players but Delhi’s uncomfortable situation. Delhi Daredevils had wanted to play their home matches on the greener tracks on the either side of the main square to get mileage for their bowling unit, but were undone by logistic problems like television angles and lack of infrastructure, forcing them to revert to the placid three tracks in the centre that were prepared for the World Cup. Between a franchise that bought seven quicks at the auctions with their focus on a green pitch and a state association that hasn’t managed to respond in kind despite investing over four years with four different curators, the team management has suffered unfavourable conditions. Team to pay Now, the Delhi Daredevils franchise has decided to incur extra cost and provide necessary infrastructure for television cameras to ensure the team gets to play on the side wickets, with the team management testing the pitch on Monday to prepare it in time for the next home game on April 23 against Kings XI Punjab. Curator Venkat Sundaram confirmed that the unused side wicket will have plenty in terms of seam movement, bounce and was ready to play on but the franchise still decided to test it first. “We would love to play on green tracks to suit our bowling, and with the kind of quality and raw pace we have in our ranks, we would be bothering the other teams. Unfortunately, that hasn’t quite worked out because of some technicalities and the franchise is working towards that. We are confident of playing on green pitches in the future,†says Greg Shipperd, coach of the Delhi Daredevils. Delhi are yet to make optimum use of their entire pace battery with Varun Aaron — the fastest Indian bowler at present — and the experienced Ajit Agarkar yet to get a game while the likes of Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav, Irfan Pathan and Ashok Dinda haven’t been able to make any impact. With a game on the side wicket still a game away, Delhi will be forced to include an extra spinner while deciding on a fit-again Morkel for the game against Deccan. “The best option for us is to play on greenish wickets because not only do we have bowlers to exploit the surface, our batting also mostly revolves around foreigners who are used to green wickets, with the pace on the pitch helping the ball come on the bat. It’s frustrating when you can’t make the best of your home conditions and everyone talks about how weak our side is. Daredevils is not a weak side, it just hasn’t been backed up enough to optimise conditions at home,†says a senior player in the side.

Not the right captain. Just give that to say Gilly . He would use some local unknown talents and provide you a surprise.
Yep even Gauti would have done a better job i feel he would have used Chand much well. Warner said that he is the guy who would take over the reighns frm Viru and Me bu just lacks experience

Delhi Daredevils are at the bottom of the IPL points table after four matches, and their biggest signing at the auction, allrounder Irfan Pathan, has been struggling to justify his US $1.9m price tag. Delhi captain Virender Sehwag, though, defended Irfan, who has so far taken only two wickets at nearly eight runs an over and scored 28 runs at less than a run a ball. "He is coming from injury and will take some time," Sehwag said. "He is coming back after a one-year lay-off." Irfan had a back injury which kept him out of competitive cricket since last season's IPL, and returned to the top-flight only at the start of this year's IPL. "He picked up an early wicket. He gave just about 30 runs in four overs," Sehwag said of Irfan's performance against Deccan Chargers on Tuesday. "He is getting better day by day." After the loss to Deccan, Sehwag said one of the reasons for Delhi struggling at home was the slow track. "Kotla has always been like this over the last few years. It was always difficult to chase down a total of 160-170 on this track. With the ball keeping low it was tough to push things along late in the match." Delhi have now been defeated in both their matches at Feroz Shah Kotla, and their next game is also at home, against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday. Sehwag hoped the track for the remaining matches at the Kotla would be more helpful to their pace-heavy attack. "We have indeed asked them to prepare a couple of green wickets here."

Sadly we have only got Viru and Morne in the team who are world class players. Rest everyone is inexperienced or just not world class. The strength of the team is pace bowling but DDCA is having its revenge by not giving us such a pitch. Imagine picking Morne Morkel and then playing on a dead pitch with no pace at all. And because the team lacks a quality spinner, we cannot take advantage of the home conditions as well.
