Well we would have lost regardless but it would not have been so utterly depressing. Anyway, on the point of the teams, the 03 sides bowling was quality, better then ours is now... batting maybe a shade lesser than the current lots...

I would agree that 2003 team was as competent as 2011 (which is a better comparison than with 1983 which was diff era ..60 overs,No power play etc)..also to note was Sachin,Sehwag,Dravid,Saurav, Nehra, Zaheer were at peak of their career!! In the final Aussie were better side definitely but instead of chasing if India batted first it would have been a different story ( they might have still lost but not so lopsided contest). In the end 2011 had more belief,youth-experience mix and will power to Win the world cup at Home in some trying condition but talent wise it was no better than 2003 team.

Zaheer is a much better bowler today. Sehwag is also a lot more consistent in ODIs (still not enough for my liking given his talent). He was poor in the 2003 WC. People shouldn't confuse the topic with which was a bigger achievement (83 or 2011). The question is which is the better team. It's a no contest for me. The current team is far better and I say that as someone who grew up following cricket in the 70s and 80s. It's not even a contest.

Also, with that 2003 team, they were putting in World Class performances in unfamiliar conditions. They destroyed every team they faced, with bat AND ball, with the sole exception of Australia. Nehra, then, was a much better bowler than now. Srinath was miles ahead of what Munaf or Sreesanth are now. Zaheer was probably not as good as he is now, but was still quality. We had Bhajji AND Kumble. The batting was as good as now. That team would have won this World Cup. Similarly, this 2011 team would NOT have won either of the last 2 World Cups...

I beg to differ. Strange things happen when you chase in a final. With the kind of lineup India had and the form our batters were in at the time we would have put up a decent total - most probably around 280 or so and then anything could have happened. There's a reason only 3 out of 10 finals have been won by the batting second and just coz we managed to chase 275 so calmly doesn't mean Aussies would have done the same in 2003. As soon as Ganguly decided to bat after winning the toss most of us went "WTF" in the room and I knew we had blown it.

Well,I still believe Indian team that played in 2003 was much better than the one that played this time .Specially our bowling was much better .

Well' date='I still believe Indian team that played in 2003 was much better than the one that played this time .Specially our bowling was much better .[/quote'] Only bowling is slightly better in 2003 but In terms of batting 2011 team is far superior to 2003 . FFS we had Dinesh Mongia in the batting . I know people will suggest performances of Nehra and Srinath as proof that 2003 was far superior but it was in swinging conditions . Someone like RP Singh or Sreesanth would have performed similar to Srinath in those conditions as seen in T20 world cup . Can we say the same thing about D. Mongia vs Raina in batting terms? Also i would say Kohli is a superior batsman to Kaif in 2003 . Both Sachin and Yuvi are better than what they were in 2003. Sehwag is twice the batsman in ODIs than he was in 2003.
