zen Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Share your reviews on the iPads apps that you can't live w/o, like and regret purchasing: My list: Top Paid Apps: 1. Note taker HD - notes 2. Sketchpad Pro - sketches 3. Photogene - Photography 4. Garageband - Games 5. Angry birds HD - Games 6. Flight control HD - Games Other useful Paid apps: 7. penultimate - notes (also have note taker HD so this one is a duplicate for me) 8. Good reader - reading and managing various files (ibooks reads PDF so Good reader could be for other files and storing web pages to read later on. Bought this because it had good reviews like a must have app but haven't used it much so far ) Top Free Apps: 1. Bloomberg - finance 2. Flipboard - News/various :hatsoff: 3. Simple mind - mind mapping looking for reviews on: (esp. how they work on iPad): 1. iWorks for iPad ----> Pages, numbers and keynote (except for keynotes, you cannot export the other two in microsoft office format. also heard that they corrupt the iWorks file from Mac) 2. iThoughts HD and mind notes ----> mind mapping (how they compare with simple mind, which is free) 3. iMovie - video editing (how good it is on iPad, can it edit videos exported from other sources and export it nicely) 4. Analytics HD ----> Graphs and stuff like that 5. idesign ----> sketches and drawing (vs sketchpad pro) 6. nice presentation softwares 7. Games :winky:
zen Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Since we are at this, let's also list useful iPad accessories: My list: 1. Targus Stylus ----> useful for sketches and taking notes 2. Camera connection kit ----> also worked with USB headphone .... didn't work with USB wireless keyboard 3. Smart cover ----> like how it folds to create a stand .... also when it is placed the iPad automatically goes into sleep mode and once you remove it, the ipad wakes up
Holysmoke Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 ^ What facebook? Friendly? My top free apps are flipboard, skype, TOI, CNN, im+, angry birds, BBC, Teamviewer HD, NDTV HD, frlendly, dropbox, quickvoice, ibooks. Top paid apps - none. Waiting for the jailbreak :--D
zen Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Another good free app is 'Pageonce'. It consolidates all your payments, insurance, travel rewards, etc to give you the up to date picture in one app. Doesn't work with banking system in Canada but I am using it to track my frequent flyer miles and travel reward points. It easier to just go to pageonce then go to each web-site. Vevo HD is cool for watching music videos Zinco gives you previews (a story or article) from a few magazines. If you like it then you could buy the issue. Web MD to learn abt symptoms, drugs (side effects), etc And ofc Dropbox
THX_1138 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 paid apps: angry birds angry birds rio red bull racing camscanner+ rest of the stuff i use is available for free.
suraj Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Can someone explain 3G as it relates to ipad for me?? If I already have a data plan for my iphone should that not cover the ipad too?? Or do I have to pay more to cover 3G for ipad? (AT&T) Also should I buy the ipad 2 or wait for an update? Which one is good & is 3G a must??
nospam Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Can someone explain 3G as it relates to ipad for me?? 3g is internet - surfing the web, chatting, online games, etc on the go. If I already have a data plan for my iphone should that not cover the ipad too?? Or do I have to pay more to cover 3G for ipad? (AT&T) If you buy the iPad 3g, you will have to pay At&t (or Verizon) for the 3g/internet data plan. You can also use the WiFi for the internet. If you buy the iPad WiFi and have iPhone with data plan, 1) you can buy the tethering plan from At&t and share the iPhone 3g with your iPad through WiFi or 2) you can jailbreak your iPhone and install a tether application on your jailbroken iPhone to share the iPhone 3g with your iPad through WiFi (tethering without a plan is illegal) Also should I buy the ipad 2 or wait for an update? Which one is good & is 3G a must?? iPad was recently updated (iPad 2), so there won't be any updates soon. Depends if you use your iPad on the go.
zen Posted April 30, 2011 Author Posted April 30, 2011 To those using office apps on iPad, which one do you prefer: 1. iWork: Pages, Numbers and Keynote 2. Quickoffice 3. Document to go 4. Office HD

zen Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 Btw, if you have a USB wireless keyboard then it works through camera connection kit. When you connect it, the iPad says that it does not support it but ignore that and type away in iWorks! My fav paid apps so far (in no particular order): * iWork (pages, numbers and keynote) * Notetaker HD (notes) * Sketchbook pro (sketches) * Photogene (photography) * iMovies (photography) * Our Choice by Al Gore (Books) * 50 places by NG (Travel/book) * GarageBand (Music) * Angrybirds (Games) * Osmos HD (Games) * FlightCtrl HD (Games)
ganeshran Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Does everyone buy Angry birds because everyone buys Angry birds?

suraj Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Almost bought ipad2 today but was advised by all friends it is a waste of money if I already have iphone
zen Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 Almost bought ipad2 today but was advised by all friends it is a waste of money if I already have iphone Depends upon what/how you want to use an iPad for :winky: I primarily use it to browse the internet and carry it with me most of the time. I use it to read some books as well. News and apps like filpboard are great on an iPad. Emails are much better to respond to than on a phone. With iWork, I can even do some minor office work on the go. Interactive apps like google earth, discover the world (hope I got the name right), qwiki, etc look cooler on the ipad. And ofc, the games look better on the iPad than on the phone. For photography, I can connect my camera to the iPad and see how the pictures look on a bigger screen. And ofc I can do some minor editing and email it quickly (rather than coming back to home, uploading everying on the laptop, figurung out (on a bigger screen than camera's) which pics to send, etc In short, the iPad replaces my laptop to perform the 'basic' stuff. This is something a phone would never do. And iPad is easier to carry around than a laptop and I find browsing the internet to be much better on it For serious stuff like working on an advanced excel file, running memory intensive softwares like the photo editing ones, etc, you would still need the laptop/computer.
Holysmoke Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 My dad who used to use the computer only to check and respond to emails, browse the net, go over some MS office documents, excel files, ppts etc has completely shifted from his laptop to the ipad. He hasn't turned on his laptop in the last week. Now I dont get to use the ipad much :((
