Waqar/Wasim bit overrated?

I think Waqar and Wasim are bit overrated compared to other great bowlers. I didn't watch them playing, but when i take a look at the youtube clips, they were really good. But quality of teams that they got wickets were Zimbabwe and New Zealand. When i used cricinfo to find thier stats against four better batting line ups (South Africa, India, Australia and England) their avg. comes up 5 runs per wickets or more. Wasim Avg goes from 23 to nearly 29, and waqar's avg goes from 23 to above 30. Then, i looked at other bowlers such as Donald, McGrath and Steyn. Their avg against top opposition is phenominal. Even, then i looked at our bowler, Srinath who is considered very average according to our neighbours, his avg is also 30 against these top teams. But his overall avg is more than 30, so he wasn't minnow basher in his times. I am not disgrading Waqar/Wasim, according to me Wasim is the best left arm bowler ever produced. But Waqar is just good, a great for Pakistan. But not in top 10/15 list of all time.

Im having a very strange day. First of All Sehwag is miles better than Anwar ever was. Inzimam was useless Wasim and Waqar were over-rated.

Waqar had an amazing peak tbh. He was brilliant during that period but became pretty useless after that. Akram is overrated because he is a left armer. If he bowled with his right arm, he wouldn't have got anywhere as much recognition. Great talent especially with the old ball but he underachieved in tests. Brilliant bowler but there is no way that he should make a first world 11. He got a LOT of cheap wickets against NZ in the early 90s. I hear this "oh he bowled on flat tracks" argument but that doesn't hold since Akram's performance is better at home. He didn't really have a great record overseas, especially against the better batting line ups. He didn't run through better line ups that often either. He often bowled a great delivery that is remembered. Compare Imran and Akram solely as bowlers as you'll see who was better.

Well if you say Tendulkar' date=' Dravid, Ganguly are tailenders. Then again, you are 7 years old.[/quote'] Do you know how many times Akram and Waqar dismissed Sachin, Ganguly , Dravid in tests.:hysterical:

This has got to be the funniest and most childish comment till date on any forum! How the hell could he have just been a right armer???? Why hasnt any left arm bowler achieved as much as he has??????????????????

What Joke thread? How is this thread a joke, i have shown stats against top 4 sides. And against England, it was actually pretty good. But other 3, they were average. Which answers my question, that despite having a great line up, Pakistan was unable to dominate in 90s, and they were never the best out there.

It doesn't matter which arm you bowl with. Compare him with others and you'll see that he wasn't anywhere close to the best. If he bowled with the right arm, he wouldn't have made a world 11 since his record was very good but not really top notch. I've watched all of them bowl and I'd always have Imran ahead of Akram. 9/10 people I discuss this with disagree with me.

and now i have seen it all......
Like what? Are you referring to something like "Akmal >> Dhoni" or "Umar Akmal more tailunted than Tendulkar and Richards combined" or "Hafeez/Razzaq/Fawad >>>> Yuvi", "Shehzad much better than Sehwag" etc.?

i cn gaurantee that if any indian bowler ever had stats even close to either of the 2 then you guys would worship him for eternity
No. pakistan has won a grand total of 2 test series against OZ and SA in last 2 decades because of them.:giggle:

Waqar - overrated Akram - underrated Akram was a notch better than Waqar, so it does him disservice to be tagged along with Waqar.
But without the help of bottle tops and tampering his stats wouldn't look as good as they do IMO.
