Have you been watching any of the IPL games at all? Badrinath has been one of the standout batsmen of this tournament, not just this year, but the previous years as well. What has Jogi done? I don’t need first class numbers to convince myself of the relative merit/de-merit of someone. You can obviously tell if someone has cricketing ability or not, just by watching them play.

Ummm, who’s even talking of a test spot here? I know I didn’t. I do know this – The trio of Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Robin Uthappa have played a cumulative 175+ ODIs. Badrinath has played 3.That tells a story by itself. His test match credentials maybe a bit suspect, but this guy is easily among the top 10 accomplished limited overs international batsmen in India right now and has been, for quite a while now. He should have been given a lot more chances than what has come his way so far. By the way, two time Allan Border medal winner, Shane Watson, wants to say he’s glad the Aussie selectors did not have the same opinion of IPL that some here seem to have.

Shwetabh is being unbelievably unfair in his assessment of Badri. To say the Joginder the bowler is as good as Badri the batsmen is just not accurate at all.

This is kind of where what I had said in a post in the other Badrinath thread is relevant (about his middle order competitors out performing him)- both him and Kohli made their ODI debuts in the same series and Kohli generally was the better performer-opening no less- went on to cement his place as middle order back up and the rest is history. This was laregly to do with where Badrinath batted in that series vs SL- as low as no 6 IIRC. He did have a big hand in a low scoring win we had in one of the matches (his debut I think). He did not play for us since, a bit unfairly maybe. Fact is he must be a much better Ltd overs batsman now with the IPL exposure Cannot really compare with Kartik, given that he adds depth as a WK. Rohits repeated selections are slightly less defendable however the key thing of course is that all three names you mentioned have achieved that most ultimate of holy grails required to be considered for a senior call up in the selectors eyes- played U19 cricket for India. Didnt Ranadeb have just one very good season when he made a test squad, though he is probably been quite consistent, and I think I am right in saying in the Plate league for Bengal??
