Cricket Tragic Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 :two_thumbs_up: The Indian cricket board on Tuesday recommended pace spearhead Zaheer Khan for the prestigious Arjuna award for his excellent showing in the cricket World Cup. "The BCCI has nominated Zaheer Khan for the Arjuna award for 2011," said N.Srinivasan, BCCI secretary and president-elect in a statement Tuesday. The pacer, who took 21 wickets to finish the quadrennial extravaganza as the joint-highest wicket-taker with Shahid Afridi of Pakistan, has been in terrific form over the past one year. If Zaheer wins the award, he will join the likes of Salim Durani, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi Vijay Manjrekar and team-mates Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar amongst others. Gambhir was the last male cricketer to have won the award, in 2009, while women's team pacer Jhulan Goswamy received the honour last year.
saneindian Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Richly deserved, should have been recommended a couple of years ago. But better late than never.
King Tendulkar Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 The guy is a legend. And Indias greatest ever seamer and the worlds second best seamer. Deserves every reward coming to him
Alchemist Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 The guy is a legend. And Indias greatest ever seamer and the worlds second best seamer. Deserves every reward coming to him But he is not as Phaaast as some. :haha::haha: He is the top bowler in the world now. Knows how to use his assets. Gives breakthroughs when needed. He Deserves these award.
DomainK Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Fully deserving. He must be rewarded for his outstanding contributions recently.
Prakat Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 As a bowling unit the award is richly deserved. :two_thumbs_up:
Sir_Afridi Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Arjuna award is given to national sportsmen for outstanding achievements. India should give it to the whole team for winning WC which is indeed outstanding achievement and not just Zaheer. I dont think Zaheer has done anything outstanding to merit this award.

The award is not usually based on a single acievement. Zaheer has been the backbone of Indian bowling for quite somewhile. He has been doing his job day in and day out. Statistically people might argue with his figures. But his presence and contribution to the Indian cricket has been immense.
Midfielder Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Hee not be phaast, he be indian not good pace boler. why him. no sense.

ganeshran Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 zaheer is our first world class seamer for quite some time. He was not very good in the early years of his career but has matured amazingly well. He single handedly carried our bowling attack for most of the matches in the WC. Respect :good:
ViruRulez Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Well deserved as he is perhaps more important to the team than maybe any of the batsman as he carries the whole bowling nearly on his own soldiers. Hope he gets the Arjuna award. :two_thumbs_up:
gsivak Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 well deserved....dare I say that in current times he is more important to our team than even Sachin
