Tendya Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Though Sachin is yet to win an IPL, He is the only captain with a Win ratio >0.6. He is generally made out to be the worst captain in IPL (, this thread is only to say that he is a good captain if not the best, though he has taken some questionable decisions in the past Here are the stats of the various full time captains Goddy(27,17) 0.613 :yay: Dhoni(31,21) 0.596 Kumble(15,11) 0.576 Gambhir(12,9) 0.571 Warne(29,21,1) 0.568 Sehwag(18,17) 0.514 The rest in order of their success Yuvraj Ganguly Gilchrist Sangakkara McCullum ps: In the above list Warne is the only foreign captain to have won more than to have lost :two_thumbs_up:
Zelig Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 The ox ploughs all day but the farmer gets the credit :headshake:
ViruRulez Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 The ox ploughs all day but the farmer gets the credit :headshake: :cantstop: To be fair enough Sachin is one of the best captains around. He was bad in the past but he is one of the best in his later years.
Blueraphael Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I really haven't been impressed by his captaincy much...+no trophies there. But then again, I would expect GOD to pull his team thru with him :--D
DomainK Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Cupboard is still empty. kthxbai Reminds of Pakis who used to point out: "Sachin hasn't won a world cup".
anotherhawkeye Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Though Sachin is yet to win an IPL, He is the only captain with a Win ratio >0.6. He is generally made out to be the worst captain in IPL :((, this thread is only to say that he is a good captain if not the best, though he has taken some questionable decisions in the past It's what Gambhir said - great teams make great captains. Some times it works other way around like Dhoni and Warne who can take a good team and make it great. IMHO, Sachin is not such a captain.
anotherhawkeye Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Reminds of Pakis who used to point out: "Sachin hasn't won a world cup". Sachin the batsman not winning a world cup is different from Sachin the captain not winning IPL. You can't become a 'great' captain if you don't win the top trophy.
Tendya Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 The ox ploughs all day but the farmer gets the credit :headshake: Cmon lets give credit where its due, Mumbai Indians was a very ordinary team in 2008-09, Sachin obviously is a part of the team mgmt who have brought the new players and have taken that team to this level. The way he supported players like Tiwari and Rayudu above foreigners, Tiwari in the present RCB has just become a slogger. Rayudu too wouldnt have been as successful elsewhere. Satish is one player whom Sachin has supported but he is yet to come good, but he is an excellent finisher and surely perform in the coming matches. Goddy may not on par with Warne/Dhoni, but some times we magnify his failures and dont see his positives as a captain
Andy Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 So Sachin is a better Captain than MSD. Time to lead India.
vvvslaxman Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 So Sachin is a better Captain than MSD. Time to lead India. On one condition. Malinga should be playing for India :cantstop:
kabira Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Sachin was not that bad a captain. Never had best 11 playing with him. IT could have been first india captain to win a test match in SA (Jo'berg draw, rain saves SA). He could have won the series in Windies (barbados collapse), remmeber we were without our spearhead Srinath and still we managed to draw few tests and should have won the Barbados test match. If Sachin is bad captain, so is Ricky Ponting, because now we see captain is as good as the team. When he had palyers like McGrath, Gilly, Warne etc. his team was winning everything. His success in IPL is due to having a good solid team with experience and youngster. Has great support staff. They retained most of their players etc.
