The Outsider Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 ^ Syd Barrett played a major role only in the "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and some other not so famous stuff in the mid to late 60s. After that, he was chucked out and the difference in style of the music of the Barrett era and "The Dark Side of the Moon" onwards is perceptible. There was still the psychedlic influence but lyrics became much more important to the album. "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" is hardly a lyricist's album.
Sooda Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Ive got Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall and their best of. Not a big fan. Maybe I just like my rock hard and straight forward hehe...

BTW, NOT FROM PIPER, but my fav Syd song: It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear That I'm not here. And I never knew the moon could be so big And I never knew the moon could be so blue And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes And brought me here instead dressed in red And I'm wondering who could be writing this song. I don't care if the sun don't shine And I don't care if nothing is mine And I don't care if I'm nervous with you I'll do my loving in the winter. And the sea isn't green And I love the queen And what exactly is a dream And what exactly is a joke.
Rahul Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 ^^ sorry, just had to add my second-fav Syd song--i hate it when folks give Rog and gilly all the bhaav, when Syd was the seminal PF. Trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro' you have no word trip, trip to a dream dragon hide your wings in a ghost tower sails cackling at every plate we break was cracked by scattered needles the little minute gong coughs and clears his throat madam you see before you stand hey ho, never be still the old original favorite grand grasshoppers green Herbarian band and the tune they play is "In Us Confide" so trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro' you have no word Please leave us here close our eyes to the octopus ride! Isn't it good to be lost in the wood isn't it bad so quiet there, in the wood meant even less to me than I thought with a honey plough of yellow prickly seeds clover honey pots and mystic shining feed... the madcap laughed at the man on the border hey ho, huff the Talbot the winds they blew and the leaves did wag they'll never put me in their bag the raging seas will always seep so high you go, so low you creep the wind it blows in tropical heat the drones they throng on mossy seats the squeaking door will always squeak two up, two down we'll never meet Please leave us here close our eyes to the octopus ride! Sit up, touching hips to a madcap galloping chase "Cheat" he cried shouting kangaroo it's true in their tree they cried Please leave us here close our eyes to the octopus ride! The madcap laughed at the man on the border hey ho, huff the Talbot
The Outsider Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 Rahul, don't you feel the difference in style between "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and "The Dark Side of the Moon" or "Wish You Were Here"? I can certainly feel it, but then again that's art everyone perceives it differently I guess.

Wish u were here has a very diff story and feel and Dark side of the moon was when Rog said, lets go commercial and thats why a lot of the credits have only Rog. BTW, since u seem so up on WYWH, do u know who sang have a cigar?? this is actually a cricket trivia Q as well. SCROLL DOWN Roy Harper, cos Rog had facked his throat on the Shine on recording. and Gilly didnt want to sing the a capella part. But the caveat was that Roy asked that he be given a "lifetime ticket to Lord's".
CC1981 Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 whatcha think of mason's drumming on that?? how long is yr version of AHM?? whats yr fav part? mine is Breast Milky. lol Rahul bhaiyya, mine is 45 min long album in MP3 format...all one file, no file names/song names. My favourite part is most definitely the first 20 minutes of the album. Thats my favourite Pink Floyd part of alltime. The creative blend of jazz, rock, mundane household/outdoors noise(like motorbike starting/hoofbeats etc), creative use of opera vocals etc. is riveting. Its almost like an ethereal experience on its own.
Rahul Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 ^^ super. that means a collectible. first track is 23:44 and B side is 13:00 breast milky happens around 5 mins into track one. storm T, who does all the PF album covers had this to say (and i concur) abt AHM, esp when asked about the silly cow: I didn't have anything, really, to do with the start of Atom Heart Mother, and when I asked them what it was about, they said they didn't know themselves. It's a conglomeration of pieces that weren't related, or didn't seem to be at the time. The picture isn't related either; in fact, it was an attempt to do a picture that was unrelated, consciously unrelated.
EnterTheVoid Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Caught Pink Floyd concert today. An imitation tribute band but they did a pretty good job. One of the back up singers was a total fox. Totally :alienbooty:
