Sid Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Yes Gauti was lucky as his name was early in the auction,same goes for Pathan.IMO Pathan has been more disappointing than Gauti. Pathan usually wins 3-4 games with his batting at IPL level but this year he has been disappointing.

He is still highest number of six hitters from CSK. 12 sixes. 277 runs in 11 matches at an SR of 120 and average of 25 is certainly not unbelievably mediocre. And also Vijay was the highest run getter in championship league in South Africa. He also made 458 runs in the last IPL and finished 5th. So his price tag is justified somewhat. Tiwary? He made 237 runs last time at average of 27.

The second one I would say would be Uthappa as he has got chances in almost every match as PW has always crumbled but he never steered the ship. It would be Irfan and Uthappa for me. Uthappa to a lesser extent because he also does wicketkeeping and that relieves some of his batting performance but then just a basic wicketkeeper would never get 2.1 million. That is way too high. Third one would be Piyush Chawla at 900K as he has not done anything to prove that much for a bowler. And Gauti in your list. :WTF: The team has reached from the bottom of the points table in the last 3 seasons to the top of the table this time round. And he has himself made big knocks in a lot of those matches. He is not the best captain and some of his decisions are not that impressive but he is still a lot better T20 captain than the ones prior to him in KKR. He surely deserves the 2.4 million at least if likes of Uthappa can get 2.1 million and Tiwary can get 1.6 million.

To be fair enough, we were laughing at KKR at the start of the auction but they made the best purchases for that price. All the other Indian players also ended up near Gauti and YP but except UV most others were not worth the price. And some franchisees also made rubbish purchases as a whole. That was not caclculated risks but complete brainfarts. One good example is the KXIP franchisee who made the worst buys especially for a franchisee which was short on funds. Just check their purchases: David Hussey to Kings XI Punjab for $1.4 million Dinesh Karthik to Kings XI Punjab for $900,000. Piyush Chawla to Kings XI Punjab for $900,000. Adam Gilchrist to Kings XI Punjab for $900,000. Praveen Kumar to Kings XI Punjab for $800,000. Abhishek Nayar to Kings XI Punjab for $800,000. Stuart Broad to Kings XI Punjab for $400,000. Ryan Harris to Kings XI Punjab for $325,000. Dimitri Mascarenhas to Kings XI Punjab for $100,000. Nathan Rimmington to Kings XI Punjab for $20,000. Except Gilly and to some extent Ryan Harris none of the others were worth the price. They could have instead purchases quality budget picks for that price and made their team a lot more balanced. Similarly DC also made brainfart decisions during auctions. They kept on purchasing bowlers but did not buy batsmen. They perhaps forgot that you cannot win matches merely by virtue of bowlers and that too in the flat pitches of India. If you checked the auction thread I and most of us were discussing about these mistakes. Maybe one of us ICFers would have done better work in the auctions that the team owners and their bevy of experts. :giggle:
