I like N Modi overall but he does not have the charisma outside Gujrat to be frank. That was also proved in various elections where BJP performed terrible in places where N Modi was taken as the star campaigner. So, N Modi charm would not work well outside Gujarat. He will never be a national leader and BJP would even perform worse if he comes to national politics. To be fair enough, I dont see BJP coming to power in India in any foreseeable future. No leader has the charisma of Vajpayee amongst the current lot and unless there is another figure like Vajpayee in the future BJP would not improve. They are only losing their power day by day and digging their own graves as time passes on. I like Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj but both are seen more as whingeing opportunists and hungry for power to an extent. The only way BJP can hope to return to power in the future is by projecting Nitish Kumar as the PM. Nitish is the only person in NDA whom the whole of India trusts and have great charisma. Nitish is also seen as a powerful and ethical leader as a general perception.

Well, Modi's case can be divided in different levels. If there was an election online where information is transparent, he would win comfortably. What I am trying to tell, for the more "educated" or more " global" audience, they would have a more fair case for Modi. But now there is another level, the rural area or the "real" India, clearly Modi would lose there. And then, he would not get much support from other parities clearly because of media pressure and more politics.

This . No coalition party will ever accept Modi as their PM candidate . I dont think BJP will win on their own majority any time soon . Whatever justification BJP tries to give Modi such as non-corrupt, effective administrator or anything else the Gujrat riots are such a shame on our nation that he will never be accepted as PM canditate by most .
True. But id did not stop Rajiv Ghandhi who also has blood on his hands of communal mass murder being PM and hailed as some kind of saint even now, even though he indulged in mass murder. Seems having his surname excuses you of anything!

It's the surname.. Having a "Gandhi" surname covers all your mass murders, especially the mass murder of thousands of Sikhs.

If ever BJP manages to win even 250 seats (which is impossible), Modi will be the PM. The problem will be, in 2014 or later, they can at best hope for 200 seats (only if they can see a revival in UP) and will mean depending on its allies for rest of the seats none of whom will agree on Modi's name as PM.

2001 Modi is different than 2011 Modi. Even Muslims are voting for him. He should not be Prime Ministerial candidate but rather become part of BJP think tank. BJP should go Jaitley or Swaraj as PM candidates. Both are incorruptible and able administrators. In fact BJP has very good politicians like Jaitley, Shaurie, Swaraj. Even MP chief minister Chauhan is great administrator. The people only talk about Gujarat's Industrial Growth. But only few know Gujarat had highest growth in agricultural for entire India. http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/economy/gujarat-posts-128-agriculture-growth-highestindia_388239.html So Modi is not only Good for Industry, he does focus on agriculture and rural gujarat.

Modi might not be popular among pseudo-secularists but he is an absolute champion Politician and a figure of pride for those Hindus who still havent shunned there religious identity for the sake of fake secularism . Modi is a " Merchant of Death" according to Italian Mama while her own Husband who played the most vital role in butchering of 5000 Sikhs in Broad daylight in capital city during 1984 is still being hailed as some champion of Human Rights . How much do we hear about the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots in Media circles compared to the Godhra riots inspite of the Number of people killed in the formed case being thrice of latter . This is our media which is funded by Anti-Nationals and Psuedos who make sure that we hear only what they want us to , not the other side of the story . India seriously needs people like Modi and Thackeray to be at top positions in Indian politics , they might be bad according to some but the ones who are in power arent good either .

Nothing against Thakeray but how is he even comparable to Modi in terms of governance. Shiv Sena is known to be anti-nationalist party which was highly corrupt during their rule. Modi still might make sense but Thakeray is just LOL. :giggle:

To be frank enough I hope NDA projects Nitish Kumar as the PM in 2014. Then only can I see them winning. Nitish has the non-corrupt image of Modi but still has the charm amongst all sections of society. I told even in the last elections that NDA is missing the master stroke of projecting Nitish Kumar as the future PM. Just by doing that BJP and NDA would have turned their fortunes and make their continuous decline to a steep growth.

^no chance of Nitish being projected as the PM. BJP is the largest party in NDA and the PM candidate HAS to come from them and it will be either Jaitley or Sushma Swaraj although there are a few others like Shivraj Singh Chauhan or Dr Raman Singh who could come into national politics and could end up being a surprise candidate.

I know the chances are less but nobody in BJP has as much charisma in the whole of NDA across all sections as Nitish Kumar has. Infact, I would say nobody has as much charisma as Nitish in the whole of Indian politics right now. It is about perception and just by virtue of perception NDA would have a great chance by making Nitish the PM.

It needs a champion of Indians. Thats how we have managed to grow and thats how we will always continue to grow. the day my hindu identity starts dominating voer my Indian identity, the day my country loses its hard earned secularity and stabilty and get cut into a thousand pieces. It becomes we against them As of the 1984 riots not being talked about, the obvious reason is because the perpaturers ar enot active anymore. Rajiv is not alive and active in politics whereas Modi is. Similarly for gujrat people blame Modi and not other BJP members. As long as anti-nationals and pseudos are able to maintain peace and not resort to butchering thousands of people, I am all for it. The country can only prosper by being all inclusive, not by catering to some majority or minority

Our election system is so fecked that, most people vote on local issues even in Parliamentary elections. As regional parties get stronger, the effect of a PM candidate of a certain national party will have arguably little bearing on those masses that come out to vote. Most people didnt care abt Manamohan Singh when they voted ( especially in rural India ). Hypothetically, if we take the south where he is not as well known as in the north. Modi cerainly will have the backing of AIADMK and TDP (in the ascendancy after YSR's death) . All he needs is BJP doing well in Karnataka to take care of the south. Likewise, alliances can make or break candidacies and Modi's past demons will have a bearing on how the minorities vote. Am sure no one here is proud of what he or his govt did during the riots, but he has been a more than able administrator. From what I have read, even muslims in Gujarat applaud his work.

when I say I am hindu, doesn't it mean I am nationalistic. Isnt Hinduism secular in itself? Don't we support Vasudev Kumtumbakam??

We all want India to be progressive and devoid of all the ills like poverty, illiteracy, corruption, communal divide, regional divide and so on. Yes, all this can be achieved if we have a able leader leading the nation. But, there are some forces in India which are funded by foreigners who for their own benefit would continue to foment the communal and regional tensions. We should be vigilant of all these forces, for example, some of them are deeply seated in Indian electronic/print media. It has become fashionable to condemn anyone who speaks for the majority of the population, he will readily be labelled as communal. But, these so called "fashionable" / "pseduo-secular" political commentators, never try or bring the atrocities committed by the minority community of India on the majority community be it in places like Kashmir or in some parts of India. This is what makes me unhappy. There should be equal justice for us all. I expect equal justice for all irrespective of religion/region etc and at the same time DO NOT want people to suck minorities for vote bank politics. We all are Indians but do not make the majority suffer for vote bank politics. Also, we always need to be wary of some the hateful agenda of "some muslims", who still dream of making our nation Islamic. We should respect all religions but also at the same time be wary of anti-nationals and communal forces and pseudo-secularists.
