Tony Greig wants an end to India 'domination' of ICC

The Gora teams have no problem when they dominate(d) the proceedings. Let me ask you all a fair question. What does the ICC do with all the money it makes from World cups 50 overs, T20, ICC Champions trophy etc. Do we need the ICC at all. All we need is board reps from different countries getting together once in 3months for Chai buiskut sessions. ICC is a crooked organization swindling Indian money

I am not too sure "No-one really cares about it outside of India", I do not know where you come from or your age but if you don't like the IPL trust me you better be worried! The IPL's main overseas audience target are not naysayers like you but "kids", people in the age group of 10 to 18. These kids across cricket playing regions are being rammed down their throat by marketers as "the best cricket league where all the stars play". They are growing up watching IPL as the premier cricketing competition in terms of watching, playing, and making money. Regardless of the quality or significance of IPL it is what kids will grow-up watching, reading, hearing about and eventually follow it. Be it "kids" in Pakistan or England, South Africa or Australia, IPL will continue enticing them.
You could not be more wrong. I don't think it's even on television here.

Nobody wants you to care. It's our product for our markets and it's doing very well.
Well then that's pretty sad if that's the way things are going.. Fans are what make the game.

Trust me on this. I've been living in London for a LONG TIME and I'm a member of the Middlesex Cricket Club. I know about cricket and cricket fans in this country. Yes, it's on ITV4 since last year but in England, it is only test cricket for the people. Ask any of the other people who live in the UK on this forum. Cricket fans only care about tests and some only care about the Ashes. No one gives a **** about international T20 cricket, let alone a domestic league. Reg Eng's tour of Bang, it was on Sky. Sky didn't even bother to bid for the IPL.
Fair enough, but I think you are mixing-up perception v/s awareness. No-one cares in the enclosed and privileged places like "Middlesex Cricket Club". What about the kids with no access to facilities like Lords, the only cricket they will come across is IPL, similarly it's the same here in India. It's might not be healthy for Test cricket, but well...that's another issue. I remember reading an article last year about how ITV's IPL coverage initially averaged over 450,000 viewers per showing (more than Ashes viewership in UK), and which was matching some of UK's top shows' viewership. After some digging I managed this for this year's IPL, it seems IPL is still averaging a decent 200,000+ per match, as opposed to Ashes averaging 200 to 300,000: Actually IPL is the 2nd most watched sports league after English Premier League in UK. source: http://www.barb.co.uk/report/weeklyTopProgrammes? Ask ANY cricket fan in England and they only care about tests. It's not about elite supporters. The reception chap at my apartment would tell you cricket=tests. Even ODIs are not really taken seriously by a lot of people. T20 is seen as a freaking joke (quite rightly, if I may add) Cricket, like Golf and Tennis, has traditionally been an elite public school thing but it has changed a bit. Even in less affluent Northern England, there is a strong culture of test cricket. Your numbers don't mean anything since there are loads of Asians in England. It is also on free-to-air compared to other cricket on Sky. If you don't believe me, ask the England supporter on this forum or the ones who live in England. There are quite a few I think. For them it's the Ashes and then other test series. Limited overs does not really figure. It is one of the reasons why they've been **** in the format for so long. Compare viewership of an Ashes series in England to the Mickey Mouse World T20 that England won.

you couldnt be more wrong about that. Just wait till SRT, RD and VVS retire and see how the heroes recruited from the tontee-tontee circus fill up the spots and start playing test kirkut :--D Iam sooo glad to hear that Bradders :woot:
The main thing that IPL has done is attract more youngsters to the game. Back in 90s, and earlier as well, we couldn't even think of a future in cricket and essentially had to concentrate on academics as risk of playing cricket as profession was huge - either you make it to the Indian team or struggle throughout your life. With IPL the kids have a decent option. Now they can take that risk and even if they are not intl class they should be able to sustain themselves via IPL and domestic cricket. T20 by itself won't create legends like VVS, SRT, Dravid etc. but it will ensure fresh blood gets injected into the game with youngsters taking to cricket. With more youngsters getting attracted to cricket chances are we will unearth more quality players.

Concentrating on Tests for the last 100 yrs and still a best of #3 in the test rankings? May be it's time to concentrate on other formats too. (If I remember correctly T20 was introduced by ECB to the world). :hysterical:

Just because people in England care about one particular format does that make that format de facto world standard. Maybe you think so. Bottomline is India is the epicentre of cricket and you are plain jealous. You dont come out and blurt it but you are saying that in round about way. Anyway after India is done touring England I think you will not care about that format either, you will care about football only.

I don't care about someone else criticising the BCCI's power base or the IPL. That's their opinion. But if Tony had any balls or integrity he would be fair to all boards and not just target the BCCI. 1. Pollard/Gayle aren't playing in the Windies series because of screw-ups by the WI cricket board and the player's own choice. 2. Secondly the BCCI doesn't demand an open window for the IPL. Other tours like the Eng/SL, WI/Pak series are going ahead during the IPL. 3. And lastly, yes the BCCI does have a lot of power but they have never, ever come close to abusing it like previous boards in the same position. Specifically the old world cronies of the ECB. Anybody think the BCCI would ever think about forcing the World Cup to be held in India on three consecutive occasions? Well that's exactly what the ECB did for the first three world cups. That's the kind of abuse of power that went on before.

Its not like England are much better in tests :cantstop: Just lately they've been playing well. Lets look at the many years before that. Tests being the only important thing is just a cover-up for their suckiness the other formats. ODIs are important to them as well, look how they made sure to host the 1st few WC tournaments and tried for the ones after as well, but with not as much success.

Couldn't agree more here, you have gotta love the hypocrisy of the so called "guardians of cricket".
