ICC sold its broadcasting rights for 1.2 billion $ for 9 years which includes 3 ODI world cups and a lot of T20 world cups. IPL did the same for 1.9 billion $ and this is a domestic tournament. Add in the nearly billion dollars from champions league and you have a domestic tournament that makes around 2.5 times the money compared to the world cups.

The total TV ratings are down for sure, but the online viewership ratings are up by 80% I think. Read it on cricinfo.
