Teenage Brathwaite in Windies squad Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis May 20, 2011 - Teenage Barbadian opener Kraigg Brathwaite was on Thursday named in the 13-man West Indies squad for the second Test against Pakistan which starts at Warner Park on Friday. The 18-year-old has replaced left-handed opener Devon Smith as the only change in the squad which won the first Test by 40 runs in Guyana last week. West Indies skipper Darren Sammy said his team were looking to seal a 2-0 series win. "We're confident. The victory in Guyana was a boost in confidence for the guys," said 27-year-old Sammy. "The belief in the team is improving and everybody believes that they can go out there and win against Pakistan. "We did the right things in Guyana and we will look to do the same things here in St Kitts. "We bowled well as a bowling unit and in the batting we saw guys digging deep for the team. The Pakistan spinners gave us some trouble and we know that is an area we have to get better at." The win in Guyana was the home team's first Test match win in more than two years. It has also set up the possibility for the Windies to have their first series win since March 2009 when they beat England 1-0 to win the Wisden Trophy. "As a team, when we met in Barbados before we departed for Sri Lanka last November, we had our plan for the next three years, where we want to be, and so far we're working very hard in achieving that target," Sammy said. "Moving up the rankings is definitely one of our team goals so we all know what's at stake. We have that at the back of our minds, which will be motivation for the guys. Winning a series at home against a higher-ranked team would be a massive boost." A very exciting talent. Had watched him bat in the u-19 WC last year. Is a brilliant back foot player. BTW wondering what happened to Adrian barath, another one with wonderful potential, hit a debut 100 in Australia.

His batting idol is chanderpaul so its looking good, the kids has been marked for greatness since he was 14 so there is a lot of pressure on him.

Barath has not played any competitive cricket since February but has been working on improving his fitness and technique while he recovers, something he believes will help him become a better player. "I am feeling much better and I have been training [with First Citizens Clarke Road United] and I feel fitter now than I ever was," Barath told the Trinidad Express. "I want to return to competitive cricket as soon as possible and hopefully I can return to international cricket for the India home series." He admitted that injuries have set him back and that he was frustrated by the layoff but was optimistic he would come back stronger and fitter because his recovery period was being extended to ensure that the injury would not re-occur in the future. "I have been using the time to work on my fitness. As an international cricketer, fitness is very important so I want to be as fit as possible and I think that will auger well for me in the future." The opener will make his return to competitive cricket this weekend in the Eastern Credit Union Premier Division, playing for Clarke Road United against T&TEC Sports at Point Lisas. "This game is going to be competitive and I am going to try my best to help Clarke Road move up the table. My personal aim is to occupy the crease. I have been batting in the nets a lot and I have been working on certain aspects of my game, both physically and technically. I got advice from various coaches. I have been training with my club and I am ready to play."

Played one or two pleasing shots but on the whole nothing special and has some serious technical problems. Unfair to pass judgement after one innings, granted, but then the hype around him was so massive that I was expecting a lot more than he showed.
