The level of Statistics and Math in a MBA is rudimentary compared to what is required for quant jobs and research.

MBAs do quant work? :hysterical::hysterical: Here is one of the most popular quant job website - please find me 5 positions in quant which are looking for a MBA: http://www.quantfinancejobs.com/
I can not understand what is your problem. I said - quant kind of jobs. There will always be difference in level of 'quant' as per the degree/requirement. MBA finance vs MS Finance vs PhD Maths...and is always a matter of choice. There are positions where companies would accept both MBA-Finance and MS-Finance. Some people would prefer MBA-Fin over other, if they are looking for all-round skills. And some people would prefer MS-Fin over MBA Fin, depending on their requirement of desired skills. As per you - if there are no jobs involving quant skills at all post-MBA, then I guess MIT should consult you before designing their curriculum. As I can clearly see some quant electives in there. http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/ If you are lazy - "Non-linear programming, data models, queue theory, Optimization methods" are few of them. And as per their placement report http://mitsloan.mit.edu/pdf/fullreport10_11.pdf It seems, good # of students opt for Finance jobs. Now you can go on and continue practicing your typing skills.

^ Even adding 2 and 2 is a quant 'kind' of job. Fact is none of the actual quant jobs, as defined and accepted by the industry, look for a MBA. How does placement in finance jobs imply quant jobs?

If you want to nit-pick - what you think is a fact, is not necessarily a fact. Try more of google/bing/whatever search and you will be surprised how many people are unaware of your existence. So, when are you going to ask MIT-SLOAN to stop providing quant electives for MBA students? I am sure there are more schools committing similar crimes - some are doing even bigger sin of providing specialization in computational finance with MBA degrees.

^ Then according to you, BE-CS from manipal institute of technology should be preferred (and better paid) for CS/programming job then BTech-Mech from IIT. Sloan is rolling red carpet for you.

:hysterical::hysterical: yeah, all the passion for math and science in those passionate people dries out when half the people end up doing MBA in few years and selling soap and manipulating excel files :two_thumbs_up: Point is: passion is neither necessary nor sufficient to do well in something like JEE. You need some aptitude and rest is just bloody mindedness.
An overwhelming majority of IITian who go for MBA's opt of finance Specialization ahead of other specializations like Marketing, Strategy, IT operations. If this has nothing to do with their relatively higher quant orientation, I don't know what other factor can explain that. Having passion of math and quant doesn't mean you have to end up being a PhD in Math or OR to justify your passion. You may be simply better than others in routine course of things which require some kind of quantitative analysis.

^ It is impossible, how can they do that w/o asking Outsider. Anyway, I already sent email to my MBA friends who happened to do any bit of quantitative work and did not use the above website for their job search. How can there be more than 374 jobs in this world that involve quantitative analysis work.

Golts are doing it for the extra dowry they would get :secret:
You must be joking. I know how much they value education in a prestigious institute like IIT. May be you're right about some people who goto US universities for doing MS (they need not have great academic record to get a seat in some US university) to improve their market value :p

If you consider positions like Wealth Manager to be quant jobs, then yeah you did a good 'job' by searching 'MBA' on the site. Anyhow, there is no point dragging this - if you and akshayxyz want to live in the delusion that MBAs do quant work, please be my guest.

Well I've never applied to Sloan, but MIT has done that - I still might be able to dig up the email, let me know if you want to see it because that's pretty much the closest you'll ever get.

Golts are weird (I am one but was born and brought up in Chennai so more of a machi)' date=' they are either outright geniuses or complete dip*****s, wonder why.[/quote'] In my experience of telugus (couple of flat mates(one with jee rank 60) and many colleagues), I wouldn't call any of them very very good. They are mostly hard working n would often work extra at the expense of their work-life balance. Tamils are smarter (are manipulative n have v. good managerial skills) on average imo.

If you consider positions like Wealth Manager to be quant jobs' date=' then yeah you did a good 'job' by searching 'MBA' on the site. Anyhow, there is no point dragging this - if you and akshayxyz want to live in the delusion that MBAs do quant work, please be my guest.[/quote'] Firstly I picked these jobs from the site which as per you publishes really quant fin jobs only. So all of them qualify as the quant jobs. Anyways following are job titles for all the five jobs which I have posted. Wealth Manager -Portfolio Quant Analytics-Investment Management-Asset Allocation VP/SVP level Portfolio Risk Analyst for World Leading Investment Bank in New York Senior Research Analyst - Asset Allocation | Quantitative Research Group Senior Market Risk Manager for an established bank based in New York Client Consultant for a World Leading Independent US Asset Management Firm which one of these titles suggest you that it can't be a quant fin job? You picked only Wealth manager as the title of the job. Going through the complete title would have helped - Wealth Manager -Portfolio Quant Analytics. Coming back to original point, I'll agree the doing MBA(Finance) from a top-notch institute does not ensure a quant fin job. And you need not be an MBA necessarily to get a quant fin jobs. But to say that MBA's don't get quant fin job is taking thing too far from reality. In most of the MBA programs you can easily avoid advanced quant courses. However if you are keen, you can find few electives which would test your quant aptitude. More an example, most of the MBA courses would offer a course like Quantitative Analysis in Finance. Believe me this course can have as much advanced quant as you'll find in any other curricuum. However, the difference is, in MBA you have to go through all these kind of stuff only if you are very keen on.

Is it difficult to understand & accept that, someone who is (or used to be) good at Maths Or enjoys(or used to enjoy) Maths, but happened to choose MBA over MS/PhD - for whatever reasons - will still prefer the kind of jobs that has requirement of quantitative analysis skills. And there is a requirement in certain post-MBA positions where it is desirable to have a balanced combination of quant skills and other skills acquired in MBA. Which is the reason why all the top MBA schools esp likes of Sloan, Wharton, Kelloggs offer good range of quant-electives. Also, you made a joke of yourself by posting that "best quant job search portal", which hosts at best 374 jobs in total - as one stop website for all info related for quant-finance job requirements/placements in the world. With all your mathematical/physics/statistical genius - you did a great job of concluding - "rofl, rofl, hysterical...ABC thinks MBAs do pure quant work..rofl", whereas ABC just said "some MBAs (who happen to have love/aptitude for maths) prefer jobs which require quantitative skills, more than other typical jobs after MBA".
