Dhoni is the most valuable Indian cricketer of all time

Dhoni's contribution with bat in WC - Mediocre to say the least Dhoni's contribution with bat in IPL - Mediocre He is nothing but a hype. Make anyone out of this team a captain and India would still win it all. The team has absolutely the strongest line up possible today and there is not much Dhoni is required to do to win matches. Make anyone a captain and fill up the team with Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, UV, Raina and Kohli and India will win just as many games as it has under Dhoni's lead. You can't say that Dhoni has won this and that, the team has...

replace valuable with luckiest and we have a winner.
Give me a lucky captain over a good one anyday. By the way once is luck, twice is coincidence but if someone keeps on winning it can't be either.

if this **** is going to go on I will claim that, Raina is the most valuable Indian cricketer of all time. India wins all the WC games in which Raina has played. 100% ratio CSK has won two seasons in which Raina has played. :withstupid:

But he wasn't around for the T20 Cup win

This is why posts like these which seek to rate players based on arbitrary parameters like "Valuable" invariably end up turning into shouting matches. Before agreeing on what the definition of this "most valuable player" is, how can you decide if dhoni fits the bill or not?

I didn't say that Dhoni is "not good" but he is definitely not the "most valuable cricketer of all time for India". He apparently "chose" to play in the final match. Does that mean he chose not to do well in the rest of the games? The notion of "choosing" to peak at the right time is dumb. It's a good thing that we got the better of him in the last game and when needed. That does not mean that he won the whole world cup on his own. If Sachin, Yuvraj and Raina had not rescued the team at the needed times during the first two rounds we would not have made it to the finals. Dhoni is obviously one of the best India has produced but he is far from the "most valuable".
In most of the matches in WC, our top order including some great batsmen like SRT, Viru, Gambo, as well as Kohli and Yuvraaj did most of the work and he didn't get to face enough overs before going all out. He came at 6 and what he had to do is go all out from first ball to accelerate and he could not do that very successfully and most of the batsmen would fail in those situation and for any batsman success ratio is very low at that point when you have to smash most of the deliveries you face. It become a risky affair in comparison to the top 4 batsmen. If Dhoni would have batter at 3, I am pretty sure he would have had more runs that what Gambhir had because dhoni once set does not throw his wicket away like Gambhir and Kohli did many a times WC. He only got to bat early in final and you know what he did.

Dhoni is a wicketkeeper batsman and batting is not the only job of his.But his batting stats are still very good. Eventhough indian team is full of a lot of talent, dhoni is the most valuable player..even with this team if u make sachin, yuvi etc captains..we will win a lot less. Take a bow...MSD...this 3 letter word stands for a WINNER.
