Russell Domingo will be Kirsten’s assistant and Allan Donald will take over as the new bowling coach. These shock announcements are set to be announced when the Executive Council of Cricket South Africa (CSA) start with a “house-cleaning exercise†on Monday. Although the CSA Board must still approve the appointments, Sport24 has learned from reliable sources that Kirsten will succeed Corrie van Zyl after South Africa’s disastrous World Cup campaign. Kirsten, a former Proteas opening batsman, led India to glory in the World Cup a couple of months ago. Smith will apparently resign on Sunday as Test captain. He has in recent times also resigned as one-day and Twenty20 captain. It is being speculated that AB de Villiers will be the new captain.

Gary might be good coach but i think when u have Dhoni as captain most coaches would have achieved similar results for us . His role has been projected more than the reality by media because of Chappel fiasco .

The Burnt Nan Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 He(Gary Kirsten) may however be that rarest of things , a "lucky " general ; hence the placebo effect of self belief his presence may inject into the Proteas could be very dangerous to India's No.1 status. Any inside details of our team now lie in our main challengers hands , and despite the charge of belittling our World champion /No.1 team , I remain I think objective about "Team India", and bluntly I feel it's basically our batting that gets us out of jail . Most of those stalwarts are retiring before next WC , and miss series regularly now anyway , much as I would like to see our hugely talented fringe step up , can I just remind people of fate's strange ways - remember England and The great next best thing Graeme Hick !!! SA with Tahir ,and T'sotsobe/Parnell have the missing pieces for a great team ( balanced attack), think about it with Morkel and Steyn they have the equal of any out and out fast men , The keeper Boucher is A1, and a useful bat , the above mentioned world class Left arm swing bowlers and spinner , leaves only the batting , and let's just say any side that reads Smith Kallis Amla ( with AB , Albie,Prince etc, as lesser lights) will be backed to fight in any combination of questions asked by a game's situation, better than almost any other team I can think of currently . Yes our team( as we currently pick it -in squad terms) is as good ,except in two ( out of three) pacemen who whilst promising are kindest described as inconsistent. So let's pray Sharma and Shree bring out their best for this season's Test calendar. I just hope Varun Aaron , Mithun and Yadav are on fire with desire and skills/ strength improvement.Behind them, can Irfan look@ Parnell and think,that he was and can be better than that ,also ;can someone put Deepak Chahaar thru some gym work (a la Mithun) ,as we need a banana ball specialist who's about 135-140 kph( not 125-130 as Deepak currently is ) to replace Zak in a couple of years. Frankly get some of these into English teams, even if only in Lancs./Yorks league if they're not welcome in county circles, to get them into a full time professional mentality and workload / mindset, where they can see what speed and swing achieve in somewhat more helpful conditions.
