cowboysfan Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 he needs rest. hell be crucial in the tests and has been playing non stop for a while. For that reason a lone he should sit out. I hope we win the next ODI so that all the rest of the squad can feature. Ishant can get some overs in him before the test series, Vinay can get a chance to show if he is Intl class and maybe Munaf can sit out as he too is in the test squad...Manoj can get some time in the middle, Virat and/or Raina can sit out and let someone else captain for one match at least- maybe Parthiv...who cares really...Saha can keep and Parthiv can open.. PP, SD, RS, SB, MT, YP, WS, RA, PK, VK, IS hopefully for matches 4 and 5 this is too easy, you should have gone with just one initial.
ganeshran Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Well' date=' that is not what your thread title and Opening post seems to indicate. The title, rather glaringly, has the word ‘[b']DROP’, instead of the word ‘Rest’. Plus, in your OP, if you had said 'Its time to youngsters a chance as well, so Ashwin needs to be included going forward’, that would have been perfectly fine. But you said ‘Bhajji bowled badly, so Aswhin needs to play in his place’.. Hence all the adverse reaction. It might well be the case that you intended to mean that Bhajji should be rested and Ashwin included. But the choice of words is also very important. Since when has ICF become so pedantic? :dontknow: I clearly said Selectors should give Ashwin a chance in the 3rd match. I am sure most posters can read a 2 line opening post. I have time and again defended Bhajji as a test bowler here. But in ODIs its time to start the transition. And the windies series is the best opportunity to do so. Bhajji bowled very badly in the last ODI. Selectors should give Ashwin a chance in the 3rd match.
cowboysfan Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 You can't/shouldn't drop Bhajji' date=' we can rotate him.. Thats the best word.[/quote'] you cant rotate him either,he can only be "rested" now.

There’s no other way to interpret your OP, other than to understand that Bhajji needs to be ‘DROPPED’ due to under—performance.
ganeshran Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Pedantic? Ermm, I am sorry. There’s no other way to interpret your OP, other than to understand that Bhajji needs to be ‘DROPPED’ due to under—performance. Yes he needs to be dropped for not performing in the 2nd match. If the team management calls it 'rested', then so be it. The time has come to start the transition phase in the Indian team and a second string WIndies team presents the perfect opportunity to do so. It doesnt mean we need to stop picking Bhajji altogether, but that others also need to be considered for selection.
Guest Gunner Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 If we clinch the series in game 3, we will probably begin to see the changes anyway. But coming to the original point – There’s absolutely no question whatsoever of dropping Bhajji fro mthe Indian team. That will be one of the foolish things to do in the history of Indian cricket. Why we do have judge everything by the figures on the stat sheet? He is the emotional leader within the team. Dropping him may have a catastrophic impact on team morale. Waise, its not as though he’s been bowling so badly that he is actually harming team India’s chances. IIRC, he took 3 wickets in the first ODI, did he not? Everyone’s allowed to have bad day. Having said that, there's also no denying that Aswhin is a precious talent. He's a proven match-winner for us in T20s and a crucial weapon in ODIs. But his time will come pretty soon. Initially, i was a bit surpsised that they chose Mishra ahead of him for the ODIs. But in hindsight, seeing the Windies batsmens' sheer ineptness against quality wrist bowling, that was probably a wise move. Kudos to the Indian team management to not resist the temptation of including the obvious spinner in Ashwin and have the common sense to include Mishra. Are you trolling? Because you sound like a Paki right now. Only KT could have come up with a post like this. Look even he agrees with you.
Guest Gunner Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I can categorically say that harby needs to be dropped till he gets back his old skills. I posted his avg/strike rate for the last 4 years (since Jan 1, 2007) in test matches in another thread, it is abysmal compared to how he started. The man is awful, to say he is the emotional leader etc is absolute bullcrap. We are a professional outfit who should choose players on current form. If harby takes a break and gets back to his top notch sel, all the better, no? Why mince words and call it "rest" when we know he needs to be "dropped".

Cricket Tragic Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 When did Ram tl;dr become a Harby supporter? :hmmm: I thought that KT was the only one on this forum (excluding the Punjabi chaps since they don't know what they're talking about).
ganeshran Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Stopped reading right there. Dropped for a bad spell in one game.. 1 bad spell :hmmmm2: Last 12 months his average is 42 and SR is 56. I still support his place in the test side because we dont have tested youngsters yet, but in ODIs its time he starts earning his place
Ram Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 1 bad spell :hmmmm2: Last 12 months his average is 42 and SR is 56. I still support his place in the test side because we dont have tested youngsters yet, but in ODIs its time he starts earning his place Just what I thought would happen - When in doubt, out come the numbers. I love how you conveniently excluded the ER, which is pretty much the most critical piece of stat for ODIs. Of course, I will say this – I don’t need numbers to know how well or badly Bhajji has performed in the ODIs. He was one of the vital cogs of our world cup winning campaign and Dhoni’s perennial go-to man under pressure. You cant quantify that using stats. Anyways – I am out of this thread. It is not possible to have a serious discussion with someone who thinks a player needs to be dropped for one bad spell, then goes on to quote his stats for ODIs in the last 12 months and leaves out, of all numbers, the Economy rate.
asterix Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Bhajji should be dropped just for bowling a pathetic line and bowling like a gully cricketer when he bowls those lovely leg side and then going further away from the keeper as if the only aim is to somehow beat the hapless wicket keeper.. No experienced bowler can do this.. Repeatedly bowl a pathetic legside to further going away in the legside deliveries and that too bowled round the wicket.. Truly a legend.. Don't know for how many years he will be in the team..
Ram Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Are you trolling? Because you sound like a Paki right now. Only KT could have come up with a post like this. Look even he agrees with you. Why does that sound so implausible to you?

Anyways, my point is clear, Bhajji needs to earn his place in the ODI side and not take it for granted. Youngsters need to be given the chance to play.

Anyways, my point is clear, Bhajji needs to earn his place in the ODI side and not take it for granted. Youngsters need to be given the chance to play. Not quite. If only you could provide more valid arguments the next time, you’d have a better chance of keeping people interested.
asterix Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Gannu, Bhajji is not going anywhere.. Just live with the fact..Why do you think Bhajji wanted to play all the matches in this tour ala Afridi touring with the Pak team? Bhajji clearly knows that the moment he leaves his place vacant, others might dislodge him..
ganeshran Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Not quite. If only you could provide more valid arguments the next time, you’d have a better chance of keeping people interested. what valid arguments do you need? His performances have gone downhill for the last one year. Both stats and watching his performances back that argument up pretty solidly. You are the one who is coming up with arguments like "He is the emotional leader within the team".
desi pride 1234 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 bajji is our vice captain this series. can't be dropped.
