Texan Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Is it just me or do you all think that Mishra's bowling has improved by leaps and bounds? He always extracted fair amount of turn and had a good googly as variation. But he used to be very slow through the air and hence, easy to read off the picth. In the last ODI, not only did he extract prodigious spin, but was also much quicker through the air and often managed to get a lot of drift. If he keeps performing in the same vein, he will be tough to face in the tests.

Even then, I found him much slower through the air. He seems to have added some zip to his bowling. But again, it's just been a couple of matches....too early to predict anything. Hopefully, he can keep up the form. I can't imagine what a great addition he would be to India's bowling attack if he performs at the same level as the first 2 ODIs. Imagine a top quality leggie bowling to England's batsmen in England and "bamboozling" them! :winky:

Especially given the team management's insistence on playing Harbhajan and only Harbhajan when one spinner is to be selected. He might get chances in WI. Should be interesting to see him bowl in tests.

In 2010, he had put on too much of weight which clearly was affecting his bowling and he lost his place. Even in the last domestic season, he was unfit and looked disinterested despite being the captain of Haryana and later North Zone. After being snubbed from the WC squad, looks to have worked hard on his fitness and returned as a fitter player in the IPL and looks to have rediscovered his bite again. Ojha too needs to take the same route and get fitter (has bloated up a little too much post his marriage). The real challenge for Mishra will be on the wickets that don't aide spin as much and then later in the test matches. But looking at his rhythm and confidence, he should do well. Great for the team , a leg spinner bowling well always makes the bowling attack look so strong.

He looks very fit and eager to earn his spot back, and the kind of form he is in, I am sure he will be an asset for us in the English tour. The main reason why I would pick him ahead of the Confident Chawla is because, he can turn a leg spinner and not just the Googly. 50% of Chawla's deliveries are Googlies which becomes a lot more predictable. Plus the fact that he has so much control over his Top spinner, flipper, he doesn't too often get it wrong. In the IPL he was sensational and it was a treat to watch a fellow leg spinner do so well :) For now, I think he has sealed his place for the West Indies Test series, but his real test would be in England against a much better English batting. Good luck to him and I hope he is selected.
