The Outsider Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Flashback to 2007 – Lets not forget, it was an umpiring error which probably paved the way for our first test series win in England soil in more than 20 years. It was the first test at Lords, our last wicket p’ship (Dhoni and Sreesanth) were there at the crease and we were battling to save the game. Sreesanth was stuck PLUMB lbw (off the bowling of Panesar I think), but the very same Steve Bucknor who screwed us in Australia 6 months later, then saved the day for us. We managed to save that game, won the next one and secured a historic win. That's absolute rubbish. India were on the receiving end of poor decisions more than England in the series. In the second innings of the Lords' test itself, Dravid was given out incorrectly. Sreesanth might not have even got a chance to bat, if Dravid had not been given out.
jairamesh Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hot Spot would be available here BCCI = FAIL Apparently the problem is Hot-Spot is based on some sensitive Aussie military technology, hence some strict rules from Australia regarding how long it can be used abroad. Because of strong bi-lateral UK-Australia it's not an issue in the UK. And another issue is ICC's unwillingness to cough-up the money for it to be implement everywhere. It's upto broadcasters.
cowboysfan Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I bet more than 95% of indians are in favour of UDRS.TOI should do a national poll on this, the entire cricket watching fans have been given the middle finger by a few senior players.
Sachin=GOD Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I bet more than 95% of indians are in favour of UDRS.TOI should do a national poll on this' date=the entire cricket watching fans have been given the middle finger by a few senior players. and what will that achieve :hmmm:
cowboysfan Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 and what will that achieve :hmmm: probably nothing in the end but it will show that most indians are in favor of UDRS,i dont know what i will do if we have another Sydney incident(a small part of me wishes it will happen to these idiots).
Ram Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 That's absolute rubbish. India were on the receiving end of poor decisions more than England in the series. Sreesanth might not have even got a chance to bat, if Dravid had not been given out.[/quote'] First of all, I didn’t meant to imply that the we won that series mostly due to umpiring errors in our favor. I should have probably been more articulate in what I said. Secondly, I thinks its not unreasonable to say some umpiring errors have more impact than the others. If Sreesanth had been correctly adjudged out, that would have been the end of that. There’s no recourse after the last wicket fell, which is why, in my opinion, it was a huge error that went in our favor. Of course, that is in no means a suggestion that we won that series purely because faulty umpiring decisions.
achilles Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 and what will that achieve :hmmm: It will maybe help the man in your avatar realise he's not as young as he seems in the avatar.
achilles Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 probably nothing in the end but it will show that most indians are in favor of UDRS' date='i dont know what i will do if we have another Sydney incident(a small part of me wishes it will happen to these idiots).[/quote'] Our seniors are whiny hypocrites of the highest order. Just wait for wrong decisions to be given to them and look how they'll start a media frenzy and get some umpire kicked out. This kind of stance is so ridiculous, even stupid is a light way to put it across.
Karan114 Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I bet more than 95% of indians are in favour of UDRS.TOI should do a national poll on this' date='the entire cricket watching fans have been given the middle finger by a few senior players.[/quote'] Indeed, the vast majority of cricket lovers around the world would want to see the UDRS implemented in every single match. But none of that matters, only what Tendulkar and Dhoni want, does.
achilles Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 ^ The world laughs at us. However these guys will not relent, just coz their egos seem to prevent them to. Agreed SL was a debacle. But you need to learn to adjust and not dictate, esp. not when the same system saved you against Pakistan.

You make a hullabaloo after Sydney '08 (rightly so) and force Bucknor out and now you go the other way and force other boards not to use UDRS. What a bunch of hypocrites.
desi pride 1234 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 we wll see udrs when sachin, dravid, laxman retires. they dont want it because of the experience they got against sl couple of years back against mendis and murali.
ensd2 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 anyone knows how , when can we buy ticket for the test between England and India at Lords ?
Sir_Afridi Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 If Swann benefits from UDRS, then Harbhajan can take advantage even more because of his doosra & top spinner.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 anyone knows how ' date=' when can we buy ticket for the test between England and India at Lords ?[/quote'] Seatwave/ebay is an option. The other option is just to turn up at the ground and buy it off people. There are loads of people who sell tickets at St John's Wood station and outside the ground. For day 5 (and maybe 4), you can buy it at the ground.
ViruRulez Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 This negativity of BCCI regarding the DRS is becoming insane now. DRS might not be perfect but it is far better than the ridiculous umpiring decisions on most events. BCCI is making itself look bad by rejecting it again and again. Not sure what is problem they have with DRS that it cannot be implemented at all in any series.
Serani Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 If Swann benefits from UDRS' date=' then Harbhajan can take advantage even more because of his doosra & top spinner.[/quote'] Harbhajans yorkers really dont worry me, zaheer is the only threat and with his fitness record the chances of him playing all tests is pretty slim. Zaheer is probably the only thing that makes Indias attack better than the SL one currently in england and they are terrible.

Zaheer is probably the only thing that makes Indias attack better than the SL one currently in england and they are terrible. Harbhajan averaged 29 in Tests against the real South African side recently...so your South Africa 'A' side has every reason to worry.

The guy missed most of the Ashes, the WC and when he turns up he's rubbish. Swann and his injured boyfriend (Bresnan) aren't a factor either. So you're left with Tremlett and Jimmy "cloud cover" Anderson.
akshayxyz Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011  When will they learn? bleddy unphad ganwar buddhey cricketers. UDRS is not just about blindly following a particular technology. It is about giving a chance to recall few of the potential bad decisions - which can happen to any one, at any stage of the game - due to momentary lapse in concentration of Umpire, or limitation of the time, info available with on-field umpire to make decision.. and sometimes perhaps due to bias too. Third umpire/refree can always carefully review all the evidences available (video, hotspot, hawkeye, audio) **with extra time to decide** No technology/process has to be 100% fool proof from day 1, as long as it is better than existing system, it should be the way to go!
