All time Test & ODI XI

I've been doing some thinking and I've recently made some changes to my all time XI. I am wondering what your own XI are: First, the Test XI:

1. Hobbs
2. Hutton
3. Bradman
4. Richards
5. Sobers
6. Gilchrist
7. Miller
8. Warne
9. Hadlee
10. Barnes
11. Marshall

Unlucky to miss out: Gavaskar, Lillee, Imran (too many to mention). This one bats all the way until #9, which is essential, and has a fast bowling attack of Marshall, Miller, Hadlee, and Barnes (if you can consider him that). The spinner is Warne (chosen over a couple other close calls) with Sobers providing either spin or pace bowling if needed (which it rarely would). ODIs I am less sure about purely because I do not like them, nor do I follow them closely, but:

1. Gilchrist
2. Tendulkar
3. Richards
4. Ponting
5. Bevan
6. Kluesner
7. Khan
8. Hadlee
9. Garner
10. McGrath
11. Murali

Tendulkar, Richards, Bevan are the 'Big Three' of ODI batting, and similarly Garner and Murali are the big two of ODI bowling so they pick themselves. The rest was a bit harder get right.

i would go with David Boon as the wicket keeper of test x1.. would fit in punter and Srt in test and odi x1 both. i would put imran khan as an all rounder in either odi or test x1... instead of viv richards, i would go with Damien martyn in odi x1.. and instead of klucener i would put in KP

What is the Bowling attack or the team that these guys would play against ?

That is an interesting question, I would say it would be something like (for the Test team): Lillee, Ambrose, Trueman, Murali.

I am not an ODI fan, but Sir Viv was the definitive ODI batsman, there is no one you would pick before him in an ODI team. And KP probably has a bright future, but he hasn't played enough yet to get in this team. Martyn is a quality player but there are several players, such as Lara, who are ahead of him on the ODI rung IMO. In any case, my ODI team was an afterthought, really aside from Tendulkar-Richards-Bevan-Garner-Murali, everyone else is expendable.

I really dont believe in the concept of All time 11's Seriously, I feel that if Bradman was playing now, he would have been easily sorted out by the likes of Mcgrath, Bond, Warne, Murali, etc.

Bradman was a genius, jus cos no one else even came close to him in relative averages.... if the era's bowling sucked, u would definitely have more than one batter atleast closer to him than the 30+ difference in average... But players like Sobers, I feel would not have been as much of a legend, if they had played in 80s and 90s, which IMO is the real golden era of bowlers... i personally give more weightage to performances in the late 70s/80s/90s.... , less weightage for 2000s/60s and 50s....

no, not that. Bradman was never analyzed the way SRT or others are analyzed.. He played on mostly the same pitches all his life.. There was no technology to analyze his every stroke.. bowlers did not know how to get him out.. For example.. even before playing a single ball, we would know what the weakness of say, someone like Ganguly(short ball), or someone like Cullinan(leg spin)... Add to that, he never played in the subcontinent, we dont know how well he would have performed in subcontinental tracks against spin, etc. I'm not saying the bowling in his era was bad, neither am I saying he was not a great batsman. He may have been the best of his era, by far, but if he were playing in this era, lets just say, he wouldn't have averaged 99.94

First things first SS, a super thread. I am sure we have all done this exercise many times over but it never gets old does it? Secondly full marks for picking Keith Miller, possibly my favorite non-Indian cricketer(admittedly did not see much but have read tons on him) so a big yayyyy to you. the batting is almost what i would have too for my odi team, Lurks... couple of changes for the bowlers... Klusener is out and Bond is in... he jus had one great world cup....not enuf to put him in the all-time bracket...

McGrath was close in Tests and he is already in ODI. Warne over Murali because I want a leg spinner and I also want someone who can hold a bat. As a pure bowler, Murali is better but Warne edges out due to other criteria.

Lara is not in either team, and he would not be in my 2nd Test XI as well. There is Headley, Weekes, Worrell, Gavaskar, Sutcliffe, Hammond who did not make my XI AND who I believe are all better than Brian Lara, even though I think Lara is a great batsman.
