Well Played young man!! Promising start to his career so far. 2 centuries already and people have been talking about him a lot. Surprising how mediocre guys like the 2 Chamaras keep getting selected when they have decent backup. Matthews, Tharanga and Chandimal seem to be forming a good core of SL future side. I like their School Cricket system which basically identifies young talent much earlier.

I was impressed how well he handled the short ball barrage despite his lack of match practice playing such deliveries, couldn't say that for some our players in WI ODI series. That front foot pull IIRC against Dernbach was brilliant!

:finger: I would appreciate it if you guys comment after watching the match, but to address your lame ignorance here is proof from cricinfo: http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-sri-lanka-2011/engine/match/474469.html?batsman=52371;innings=2;view=commentary 15.5 Dernbach to Chandimal, FOUR, too short and Chandimal absolutely laced this. On the front foot, rocked back, stood tall and thrashed it wide of midwicket for four. Stirring stuff from the youngster!

Definitely not impressed by his handling of short balls. The only thing I can say is he was lucky to survive the way he played short stuff. He was all at sea against Broad, especially the short ball and plenty of times the ball hit the handle or glove while Chandimal was trying to fend. On another day any of those shots would have lobbed to a fielder. He needs to work on a plan on how to tackle short pitched bowling as he sure won't be able to be as successful the way he played short pitched stuff.

What about the million times when he looked piss poor against the short ball? He managed it in the end (with some luck at times) but it wasn't an impressive part of his game. I don't need the CI commentary because I actually watched the game.

Yes luck got him to a hundred!, (luck can only run for so long). Except for one blind heave, not a single chance was offered. He doesn't have an aesthetic pleasing technique but he dealt them effectively and also scored runs of them, more than our brigade of young ones managed in West Indies. And on "impressed", it's a reflection of surprise (being brought-up on lifeless pitches) he wasn't fazed and ducking at everything. He stayed in and fought his way out determined to score big.

When did I say that luck got him to a hundred? I said that he was lucky at times with the way he played the short ball. There are aspects about him that are impressive but the ability to play the short ball isn't one of them.

Wow.. :aha: He's certainly not happy with the shape of the cricket ball.. hitting it so hard.. :hysterical: May not be a test match star, but he'll win us plenty of ODI matches in the years to come. That's for sure. It seems right-handers baton change is happening right now.. Aravinda > Mavan > Mahela > Chandimal But left-handers baton change is still a ? Arjuna > Sanath > Sanga > .. Thirimanne? ..:hmmm:

^^ How many matched have you watched him play to classify as a flat track bully, when in fact he hasn't even played on bouncy tracks yet. LOL @ your ignorance.

another good knock from the young man, rush of blood got the better of him going for that swipe down the track against swann. SL have definitely found their "Kohli".
