virufan Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 A very, very interesting and bold idea of playing Yuvi/Raina as the spinner and dropping Bhajji. Ofcourse this could only really happen on tracks that don't offer much spin where we know Bhajji doesn't bowl well. The only problem is that even when Bhajji doesn't take wickets he does generally do a good job of holding up one end and keeping things tight and stopping runs. Can a combination of Yuvi/Raina do that? Either way the spin department is a really big headache right now. It sucks twice as much since Sehwag's shoulder injury because you could always rely on him to bowl 10-14 overs in an innings and do a very good job, even pick up a wicket or two. At times I've felt he's actually outbowled Bhajji. But we don't even have that luxury now! Dhoni will never drop Bhajji. They are business partners if I am not wrong.:winky:

Infact I would argue harbhajan despite his recent form will ask more question of the English batsmen. i know UV has got KP a couple of times...but it isn'y going to happen in test cricket guys. So the #6 spot must be decided solely on batting. At best he could bowl 5 to 10 overs per day to give the main bowlers a breather.

Lets agree Bhajji picks up wickets once in a blue moon.

Agreed, he did have a wonderful world cup, but if his benchmark for selection in tests was success in ODIs, then he should have been our no.1 test pick from 2003 to late 2008. The bitter truth is – the guy’s technique against high-quality fast bowling in seamer-friendly is formidable enough for him to be reliable test middle order bat. That by itself does not automatically disqualify him from the selection to the test side. What is saddening is the absence of any sort of evolution in the manner in which he deals with short-pitched bowling. Its ok to have deficiencies in your technique, but it is absolutely criminal to not show an appetite for improvement. Yuvraj clearly falls in this class. On the other hand, take for example, someone like Raina. He suffers from the same symptoms that Yuvraj is suffering, but you can tell he is at least trying to take the right medicines. His technique against short-pitched bowling, although still very susceptible, is evolving. And THAT’S the important bit.

Raina came in for the second test.
