Note: Bradman has been left out to get the discussion started and not give an edge to the Aussies Australia: - Hayden - Langer - Ponting - Chappell - Waugh - Millar - Gilly India - Gavaskar - Sehwag - Dravid - Tendulkar - Laxman - Mankad - Dhoni West Indies: - Haynes - Greenidge - Headley - Lara - IVAR - Sobers - Dujon (?) Don't know where to fit in the 3 Ws, i.e. Walcott (WK ?), Weekes and Worrell *Poll is coming up
zen Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Some numbers: batting averages (till 7/7/11) * Australia: 50 (55249/1114) * India: 50 (57821/1145) * West Indies: 48 (49041/1019) Ind and Aus have a few batsmen who played in the 2000s, a period where batting avg were high. Ofc, some of the guys are still playing. There are factors like pitches, .....
zen Posted July 7, 2011 Author Posted July 7, 2011 Aus vs Ind Openers: India (Gavaskar gives an edge) 3-5: Aus (Waugh vs Laxman ----> Waugh, Ponting/Chappell = Dravid/Tendulkar) 6-7: Aus (Miller = Mankad, Gilly > Dhoni) Aus vs WI Openers: Equal 3-5: Equal/WI (Headley, Lara and IVAR vs Ponting, Chappell and Waugh) 6-7: WI (Sobers takes care of Miller & Gilly, Dujon is a bonus. If Walcott keeps then WI become a bit more stronger) My Vote: WI

Right up there. Id suggest Border would replace Waugh for the Aussies. I think WI are the strongest side though

There could be a place for Barrington and/or Gooch as well

May be you should try the bowling line ups :P
