julianlev Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Hello all Was watching the Ind/Eng game earlier (well done Dravid) and I was drawn to the topic of England's bowling attack which the commentators discussed at length. Now we here down south like to think that we have the finest test bowling attack, whether in England or elsewhere, something which the commentators didn't seem to agree with. So my question is simple, who has the finer bowling attack, England or SA? Or to make it simple, which attack would you least like to face? (in England or elsewhere) :hatsoff:

(in England or elsewhere) :hatsoff: South Africa and it is not close. Here is how i rank them. Steyn daylight Morkel Tremlett Anderson Swann Broad south african spinner (pick one - tahir, harris) England attack will be absolutely toothless in India (just watch next time they visit).

I think Tremlett v Morkel is a better comparison. Tremlet > Tsottsotsobe of whatever bowler they Pick Swann > Than any SA spinner SA spin department is very weak ,may be in Future Tahir will make the difference

Tremlett and Morkel are pretty much even whilst Steyn is probably just better than Jimmy. In the spin department england are far superior. So they are pretty evenly matched...

So they are pretty evenly matched... you want to be really careful with the "quota" talk there friend if you'd watched him against India and Pakistan you might think differently maybe someday soon England will have to introduce a quota of actual Englishmen in their team

I think he got some stick on this forum in the 1st test but gradually a lot of people acknowledged he was pretty good. Wayne Parnell has not kicked on as much as i thought he would. I thought he might be a world beater by now.

Well it's the same fatty Zaheer who has performed everywhere over the last few years. In fact that fatty is so good that he outbowled Anderson even in the first Test when clearly injured and bowling on one leg.

Doesn't mean he is cr@p.

I have watched him in county cricket and he gets wickets bowling absolute nothing deliveries (just like Kaneria did then as soon as he played international cricket he gets spanked)

Hes made 5 ODI's and played no test cricket for SA! How can you even compare him to swan? (bear in mind this is test cricket we are talking about), I see no argument for the spin option, a good run in the world cup doesn't mean you can say that england dont have an edge in the spin department! as for the fast bowling, like mentioned the English side is alot more well balanced! Steyn quite a notch beter than the rest, but morkel is on par with anderson, the likes of bresnan,broad and tremlett show a good bowling side filled with bouncers, swing and seam!
maniac Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 SA...Steyn and Morkel will be effective in any part of the world where as Anderson,Tremlett and Broad will be smashed around in non-english conditions..Only Swann is a complete bowler
