Yoda-esque Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 O Rly? Can you come up with any intelligent arguments or atleast explain what I said in my post correctly? It is easy to post silly things like you do with no substance. Calling for Dhoni's head is silly. Period. Get back when he is not doing well.
The Outsider Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 This taking India to the top in test cricket is a myth. The ball had been rolling for a while and the whole team contributed to get us there. Exactly. Just because someone happens to be at the helm when a certain result is achieved does not require causality. India's rise as a test nation is well documented since when Dhoni was still literally lashing cows in Jharkhand - sure he played a positive and even superb role to achieve it finally, but to attribute it to Dhoni is exactly the kind of moronic billboard worshipers I am talking about.
Guest Gunner Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Calling for Dhoni's head is silly. Period. Get back when he is not doing well. LOL! This is why I said read the post carefully. I never said he should be dropped from the test match team, I said he is not a test match player. He is mediocre at best but he has other skills which is why he is in the team. Oh lawd some of you are hopeless.

He had to lead the team 2-3 years and win series against Aus (twice) and draw in Sa to get there. We all saw how the team was performing before Dhoni took over from Kumble. The same team either drew or lost under Kumble but won under Dhoni.
The Outsider Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 Yes' date=' I too think that Shwetabh is being harsh on Dhoni, but doesn't take away from the fact that KT is wrong on most things, including his championing of Bhajji and Kohli.[/quote'] It might look that way by reading my posts, but I don't think I am being harsh on him at all. I still thing as captain, keeper, and lower order batsman he is the best available package, but that's pretty much it. It's just that we have Karthik, Parthiv, and the untried Saha as options. The larger point I am trying to make is that if an ordinary test cricketers like Dhoni can command adulation across the country based primarily on his ODI and T20 exploits, is is representative of a larger and worrying trend.

Yes he should not be given credit for no. 1 ranking, Infact it started in Dada/ John Wright era. its been long journey, he jsut happen to be there at the right time leading the country. But I don't understand why are you so upset with Dhoni's billboard?? Who else you want? Shahrukh Khan :--D:--D:--D
Guest Gunner Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 He represents the average Indian. The empathy is therefore quite expected. Alzheimer's??? I am not going to waste my time. There is a difference between saying "he shouldn't be there (in the first place)" and saying he should be dropped. If this isn't clear to you don't bother yourself and move on.

India became number 1 way before they drew in South Africa and India have beaten Australia at home (which is what Dhoni did) against much stronger Australian teams.

asterix Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Dhoni needs to hand over WKeeping to a specialist WK..It's high time now. The burdon of WKeeping is showing now. He needs a break from WKeeping. I don't agreee with his Passive captaincy but he is doing a good job. It's only that he is missing too many chances of taking wickets and it's affecting bowler's morals too..
Ultimate_Game Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Quit lying. India became number 1 way before they drew in South Africa and India have beaten Australia at home (which is what Dhoni did) against much stronger Australian teams. But if India had lost to SA India wouldn't have retained the no. 1 spot. Care to see the difference in results under Kumble and Dhoni's captaincy with virtually the same team? IIRC Kumble captained against Aus in the 1st 2 Tests which were draws and when Dhoni took over he won the Tests. Also, there was another series (maybe against SA) at home where Dhoni took over when we were down 1-0 and won the game to get us even.

Bhaisaab, you are worried about cricket what about other walks of life? Half the people in this forum advocated shredding the constitution of India and following anna hazare. I am worried about a great deal of other things since my destiny is linked to my homeland and not to England.

Ultimate_Game Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 So' date=' you are claiming we won those tests because of Dhoni's captaincy and if Kumble was captaining we would have lost/drawn?[/quote'] I am simply stating facts. We saw how the team did under Kumble and how it responded to Dhoni's captaincy. By the way we did end up losing all the earlier series in SA and Dhoni is the 1st Indian captain to draw a series there.
Ultimate_Game Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Are you drunk on some desi tharra ... ? Dhoni Mediocre ? :cantstop: It's almost like the WC time when so many ppl were questioning Dhoni's captaincy and his place in the team.
kabira Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 this thread is going off topic. The original post is very valid, we would know how good we are when we lose Laxman, Dravid and Tendulkar. I hope we can find good replacement, for that we need careful planning. Someone has to be given long run, it takes a while to get settled into Test cricket. Laxman took a while to become great player that he is. He was once called Domestic Bully.
