Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a shocker- Michael Atherton: "India shouldn't have called him back". Nasser Hussain: "Everyone did the right thing except Bell. He was a (dolt). He learnt an important lesson in life and thankfully for India and Dhoni, he survived the lesson.

A lot of criticism on this forum against Atherton and Nasser is too far fetched.

@greatbong And yes Dada in a suit and Dada in the heat of battle are two VERY different beasts. So dont go by what he said today. Couldn't have put it any better!

At the stroke of tea, Bell's run-out on 137, for having strolled out of the crease before the ball was dead, was on the verge of becoming a major point of dispute between the two sides. During the break, England captain Andrew Strauss and coach Andy Flower are known to have gone to the Indian dressing room to ask MS Dhoni if the run-out decision could be overturned.
I didn't actually see what happened (read on cricinfo though), but this is ridiculous. WTF are Strauss and Flower doing in the Indian dressing room and WTF are they intimidating the opposition to recall an appeal. Did WI recall Laxman to a freak dismissal to Chanderpaul?????? If Laxman was out then, then Bell was out here too!! That b*stard Strauss and that MFer Flower wouldn't have recalled anyone! Man, such hypocrites these English *****holes.

It's matter of winning at any cost vs winning fair and square. In a T20 or ODI tournament, I would go with winning at any cost mode. In a test match, which exemplifies what cricket is all about, playing with the right spirit is the way to go. Anyway it wouldn't have made a difference in this test or series. We are doomed due to various reasons -- might as well go out of #1 rank with our heads held high.

Dravid : We wouldn't have been happy about it had it happened to us. The team led by Dhoni took a unanimous decision to protect the spirit of the game. The incident with Laxman in West Indies left a bitter taste in our mouth. The spirit of the game is important.

i believe spirit of cricket also requires captains not to appeal vehemantly when they know a batsman isn't out. confusing morality.
it's a strong statement to captains around the world to play a certain way. if spirit of cricket existed you wouldn't have half the appeals

Bell was trying to get the fourth run. It's so freaking obvious....India just made the biggest mistake they probably could have in this series. We just gifted them the series.
lets be fair, we had lost this game before then. this just made it worse we werent going to mop up their tail mate

I don't mind that they withdrew the appeal, but this is what is bugging me, there is no way in the world these english tossers would have done the same if it was Tendulkar on 138 and Dhoni and Fletcher had gone into their dressing room to ask them to do the same.
