I was just reading in the paper today that this Ramadan being bang in the middle of the summer, the days are really long in the countries that are well to the north of the Equator. That means that those fasting in places like northern UK or Scotland have to fast for around 16-17 hours. :omg: :hatsoff: We in the subcontinent have it easy. Never is the duration for more than 14 hours. Irrespective of the season. And yet we complain the most. :P

Yup. My friend is fasting in the UK and he has to fast about 18hrs a day. Since you have sunlight upto 11PM and sunrise is at 5AM in the morning. It is a tough mental challenge plus he has to work long hours.

^^^ Hmm. But it kind of evens out. When Ramadan is in December/Jan, those in the UK have to fast for only 5-6 hours. So, I guess over a twelve year period, total # hours fasted in India or UK would amount to the same.

Happy Ramadan for everyone!!!! Mariyam, the trick is to move to tropical places or southern hemisphere countries during the years when Ramadan falls in summers of Northern hemisphere. :winky:

@ Mariyam. Us in UK are lucky that we dont have hot weather here that ppl in Indo/Pak and middle east face. 17/18 hours in 16/18 degrees is much better then 14 hours in 45 degrees. I was in Kashmir three years ago when fasting in sep was very hard.
