amiret Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Dinesh Karthick was one of the highest run scorers in the 2007 series in England . He opened with wasim jaffer. He scored crucial 60 runs in the 2nd innings in the Lord's test which we saved. He scored 77 runs in the 1st innings of the 2nd test which we won. And he scored 91 runs in the last test which we dominated. Yuvraj Singh has been tried many times in the last 7 years in the hope that somehow he will transform himself into a credible batsman in Test Matches. He has failed on most occasions. His highest score of 62 outside the subcontinent came two days ago. He avgs 19 outside the subcontinent. Dinesh Karthick has played just 5 matches outside the sub-continent always as an Opener and he averages 46. Surely DK deserves more chances than Yuvraj ?
yoda Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 He can replace quite a few players on this team. :winky:
thevortex Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 He most certainly can get into the team. He just needs one or two big hundreds in the Ranji season to get among the probables. Perhaps Pujara/Badrinath are slightly ahead in terms of consideration among selectors at this point. But talent-wise, Dinesh is right up there!
amiret Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 i agree . I forgot about Pujara. He must definitely get a look in . He failed in the 3 innings in South Africa but I was surprised Kohli got a chance ahead of Pujara in West Indies.
King Tendulkar Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 He could no doubt score more runs then Dhoni
daryl1985 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Pujara has quite a serious injury, i think. He picked it up in the IPL. Pujara is currently the best test prospect in India IMO although Kohli and Rohit certainly have the talent to succeed. Despite getting low scores in South Africa, Pujara showed he has decent technique and the ability to hang in there. I haven't seen much of Rahane, can anyone tell me how good he is? Also, just how talented is Karthik? He looks like he has concentration issues and is only good for a few half centuries. Maybe he needs to ditch the gloves.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I posted about this in the thread about reserve openers yesterday. He could get picked for the tour of Australia.
maniac Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Kartick is a brilliant fielder in addition to being a backup keeper,so definetely a bigger asset than Mukund,Vijay or all the other talent we have been trying lately.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 He definitely should be ahead of Saha in the team.
Rahul Dravid Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 he should be in the Team. he has performed well in the past. India shouldn't look at Karthik as a Wicketkeeper/Batsman... if he can perform he can just field and open the batting..... but oh well all this bs will be gone cuz our batting lineup when in full strength is great.... hopefully we see that next test- gambo veeru rahul sachin vvs yuvi dhoni
Pagalpanti Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 During the 2nd test they showed one of his innings were he scored 90 odd in '07 tour of Eng. I was so amazed at his technique. He is one of the few youngster with classical technique. The only problem he has is that he attempts to play too many deliveries getting edge most of the time and getting too across and being lbw candidate. If he could fix that, will surely end up playing for India much longer and end up with avg of 40+.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 The biggest problem for him was his inability to convert starts. So a few low scores and he was out of the team.
