What I was trying to say is those who do it, do it because they are basically good people with good intentions and not because of their backgrounds, religion wise or otherwise.

The richer ones prefer spending large amounts of money to appease our god(s) so that we may have a better after life :hmmm: At least for the 'very rich' it is rarely about religion, for them it has to be some money channel.. for saving tax, or money laundering or such related stuff.

Where we have seen good people get together and do good things, we have also seen bad people do bad things. Criminals and idiots are found everywhere. However I agree that upbringing plays a significant role and hence background is indeed important.

There aren't any taxes over there. And neither does out govt tax NRIs, only if they earn any money in India it is taxed. So this might not be about tax savings at all. Interesting to see what kind of an effect this will have on remittances (which are also tax free) coming to Kerala in that year. A huge chunk of those who remit their money to Kerala, will be donating a good part of their spare money ( probably a part of their remittance) for this mosque. So a part of the money that would have ended up with their households is ending up with a charity. That view correct?

Could still be money laundering to hide money made in opium deals, arms trades ... just a thought.

Even though I am myself atheist(non-believer in any sort of faith not backed by science), I have no issues with such spending on religious structures / activities. As I have seen some communities following some dumb faith, but yet staying very peaceful, helpful within them and to others. Also, I would never get to know the actual flow of cash.
