bulbul Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 VVS was just one of our best performers against WI why does he need to retire after 1 bad series in which most of our batting failed and he at times got starts. He was playing in the no3 position which he wasn't playing a lot in recent times. I agree Dravid shouldn't retire yet but wasn't he being criticised just 6 months back? I would say induct 1-2 players at a time...Rainas' spot is vacant and we have lots of openings in the bowling department, with Gambhir and Sehwag being so fragile recently we will have a lot of opening slots too, there will be plently of oppurtunities to try youngsters,so we don't need to get rid of our major players for that you are not at getting the Point..these guys are played for 15/20 years..nothing to achiev much as I already wrote there are only 2 other really good teams out there..if you are not able to Motivate yourself and play well against them what is there to continue?
saneindian Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 I have a feeling Dravid could be the first one to announce his retirement. He has hit a purple patch after a long time and having quit the ODIs recently, may walk away after/during the home series against WI. And then there is the freak injuries which Gambhir has been having. Missed a test in SA, went missing in SL, missed the WI tests, missed a test here and was injured ruing 2 tests. Looking at Sehwag's fitness, not sure if he will last for another 3-4 years. We better start the search for an opening pair as well. It's suddenly looking quite bleak :(

It's suddenly looking quite bleak :( mark my words, Sehwag will retire after playing 100 tests. and I doubt Sachin too, man had enough, my instincys say he will retire in home WI series too. These players are finished - Sachin VVS Dravid Zaheer Harbhajan (Yes Harby too, he has ego issues, once officially dropped and game over, without Sachin it will be tough for him to motivate himself) Sehwag All above will retire in short intervals.
CSK Fanatic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Sehwag is finished? Have you seen his fitness? FFS his eyes are not visible! he got chubbiest cheeks. He is 33yrs old, He will play 11 more tests in comming calender year and gonna retire. You gotta reallize he is hand eye coordination player, such batsmen tend to retire much earlier than conventional technique players.
CSK Fanatic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 We will only retain these two next yr - Gambhir - 30yrs (3-4yrs cricket left) M Dhoni - 30yrs (2yrs max)

Even if Sehwag scores a king pair every test from now on, he will probably lol at any suggestion to bench/replace Sehwag.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 When has Sehwag been very fit or agile on the field? He always looks disinterested when fielding. People are pointing it out now because he hasn't made any runs.
CSK Fanatic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 No, I always have stated on various forums that Sehwag will retire with Sachin, Dravid, VVS. He is all about reflexes and Hand eye coordination, such players deteriorate at much rapid pace. He doesnt have more than 1.5yrs cricket left.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Is he finished or will he play for another 1.5 years? Your theory about him retiring after 100 tests is hardly original since Sehwag himself said it in an interview.
Pagalpanti Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Is he finished or will he play for another 1.5 years? Your theory about him retiring after 100 tests is hardly original since Sehwag himself said it in an interview. Interesting that you point out that interview. Sehwag showed his desire to bat in middle order and given that according to his technique he might be a perfect replacement for Sachin at no.4 after he retires. Sehwag comes of once in 5-6 innings against new ball but with old ball and spinners on he would succeed more. In a years time (after the trio retires) I can see this as our playing XI for tests G Gambhir A Mukund/M Vijay V Kohli V Sehwag C Pujara A Rahane/Y Singh/R Sharma/S Raina MS Dhoni Ashwin/Harbhajan/Ojha Ishant Zaheer U Yadav/V Aaron/V Kumar/A Mithun/Sreesanth/ and others
Cricket Tragic Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Yeah, there was a thread about Sehwag's batting position a couple of days back. I'll see if I can find it.

Midfielder Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 India is not as bad as they look and England is not as good. Few tweaks here and there but major overhaul, no. I dont mind the loss but the manner of loss bothers me. SRT should have been rested and that did not happen. Sehwag should not have played, bowling is pretty much what it is. I dont want to blame Srikanth as he picked the best team available, so wont fault him for that. Except for Dravid, Sree and Parveen no body wanted to play.
jairamesh Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Definitely some form of overhaul is required, it will be hard dropping some of these players but at some point the decision will have to be made. Most of these veterans have collectively achieved everything that is to be achieved in World Cricket bar one, winning a Test series down under, hence I don't think any rash decisions should be made or will be made until after Australia. Sometimes motivation and determination is 99% of the game!

Which could pose the biggest worry for Dhoni and Selectors, hence the regression of Bhajji and Sreesanth is so frustrating, which directly impacts Ishant's ability to bowl short burst of quick deliveries as his workload increases.
fineleg Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 bumpski "new" team means Dhooooonnni and Kohhllliiiii are out of the team :--D
Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 we need to hire somebody to injure dravid. put this sick little puppy out of his misery. he is so ****ing useless but wont leave unless someone punches him in the face. gambhir should be dropped for bad form. laxman is going the same way. dhoni is incapable of playing test cricket, neither is kohli. sehwag and tendulkar are the only ones scoring...
