Ganguly wasn't a good hooker/puller of the ball but at least he had learned to duck/avoid bouncers. Raina just needs to learn how to do that and he'll be a good number 6.

I don't have any screenshots to show this, but after some short pitch balls he doesn't go forward. His eyes are not on the top of the ball and that's where even the fuller balls trouble him more than short balls.

That's why I don't give example of Ganguly. Many people mention Ganguly's case that how he was a good batsman despite not being good at facing short balls. Ganguly used to get hit by short balls more often than these modern batsman. But the difference was that it didn't affect his other strokes too much. He could still smack a full ball on off-side with packed field even after facing few bouncers.

This is what happens if you continue to get free rides. Some other young bowler would be dying to play just this 1 test and give his best. A bowler who bowls worse than a club bowler gets back into the side without superb domestic performance or any good past record. This selection committee believes shuffling among proven failures.

Raina is doing a good job of being a holding bowler. Only 3 boundaries in his 19 and he's bowled as many maidens as Sree even with ultra defensive fields.

He can become a decent all-rounder for India in ODIs. He doesn't bowl wicket-taking deliveries, but rarely bowls bad deliveries either. In tests, he will have to improve his batting first.
