Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 If the likes of Iqbal and Dilshan can be successful in England as opener' date='s no reason to believe why Sehwag can't be. Needs to restrain himself a little. Oval will be his last chance to reverse the trend of low scores outside Asia (happened in NZ and SA and even here. All the time getting out trying to play attacking shots).[/quote'] How many test matches both of them won for their team in England ? None. Averagewise they might be better. Once Viru makes even a small impact, India has always one (won). The recenmost in the bleow link. http://www.espncricinfo.com/south-africa-v-india-2010/engine/match/463147.html Dont just check his score, check the way he scored (strike rate) B->B->

He has been playing too many shots which is leading to his downfall and needs to restrains himself a little. He does that and those 20s and 30s will get converted to bigger scores.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 2002 series against NZ was extremely close and 2-0 scoreline didn't do justice to India. With just a little bit of luck we could very well have won 2-0. I wouldn't include 1996 series against Eng as it was 1-0 and we lost first Test as usual and we unearthed Dravid & Ganguly in the series. 1996 series against SA did have a few good moments but being bundled out for 66 & 100 did hurt quite a bit. Can't recall any other series where we were so outclassed as I started following cricket since 1993 Ind-Eng series where we whitewashed Eng 3-0.
zep1706 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 No I have never felt this low before. In 1999 we weren't good enough and I didn't have any expectation against the best side in the world in their country. In NZ 2003 the pitches were ridiculous, even they were struggling to score. Here we arrive as the #1 side with lots of expectations from the series, with media attention that rivals the Ashes and also at the personal level I was looking forward to this series with great interest and expectation. It's been terribly disappointing so far. I don't mind losing the way we did in Aus 2007-08, we lost after an even series. It need not even be that close, but show some fight ffs. The par score on this pitch is about 350-400. We can't even reach near it and we let them score 700 free runs. The body language from the players has been pathetic. I feel gutted. I am not sad because of the scoreline but mostly because of the way they are playing the game.
punjabi_khota Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 2008 Lanka when we were BAWed. Replace Sehwag by Dravid now. Thats one kunt punt I will never forget.
punjabi_khota Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 2002 New Zealand. Close to this. Though this series isn't over yet. Even if we draw it. We are going to end the series by winning last one and make it 2-1. Everyone will forget what happend. They will just remember it was a closely fought series' date= in which England dominated first 2 test and half of 3rd test, and India ended in style making it 2-1. In New Zealand, we just sucked against them in 2002. Vettori even never got the bowling, their seamers used to finish us up early. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Shabaash. Aur piyo daaru aur post karo yahaan
saneindian Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 As bad as this has been, the low of the 2007 WC was the worst. When we lost to Aus in 1999, that was expected or the humiliation in SA in 1996. But the 2007 WC was the worst nightmare. That was the first time the media was so severly critical of the team and it felt as if the entire team may get replaced with rookies for the Bangladesh series that followed the WC. The 2005 ODI series vs Pak was also quite disappoitning. From 2-0 ahead with MSD coming in and smashing 148, Sehwag in cracking form, looked like we could streamroll the Pakis, not to be. Then that 2002 NZ series. Perhaps the last time our batsmen struggled as badly in an away series.
Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Anantha Mendis was a mystery spinner untill this test match http://www.espncricinfo.com/slvind/engine/match/343730.html

There never was such sustained poor performances where we were dominated for long periods of time. WC 2007 was a one-off but this series has seen us being dominated for 3 Tests straight!
Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Which in a way supports my point. He has been playing too many shots which is leading to his downfall and needs to restrains himself a little. He does that and those 20s and 30s will get converted to bigger scores. He is not Dravid or Tendulkar for consistency. But unknowingly his average is still not bad compared to them. With one single innings he can take care of the averages in any sort of pitches... the day/match he does it, i am sure the result would be an India win :yay:
cameron_black Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Ajantha Mendis was a mystery spinner untill this test match http://www.espncricinfo.com/slvind/engine/match/343730.html what is that joker doing in this thread?
Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 When everyone thought a miracle was going to happen:hysterical: Miracle doesn't come often. Yes, he failed in both innings.. not end of of the world... :omg:
Trichromatic Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I can't remember when was the last time when I couldn't eat for 3 days. :((
Cric_is_Life Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 what is that joker doing in this thread? You may be a new cricket follower. But during that time noone could decode the mystery spin of Mendis including Indians.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 In tests......may be 1996 Sa tour.........but our batters still played well in 2 tests out of 3 and also 1999 AUS tour........most recent SA tour 2001. In ODIs:WC 2007.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 2008 Lanka when we were BAWed. Replace Sehwag by Dravid now. Thats one kunt punt I will never forget. We still won a test.........and we werent this badly mauled.
StatsRock Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Thankfully we have another test. Otherwise he flew first class all the way from india to last 2 balls.

Otherwise he flew first class all the way from india to last 2 balls. good one :two_thumbs_up: Yes all are disappointed with this test match. But if Viru makes 0(1) or 25(100) doesnt change the outcome of this match. He could have played for longer without mcuh score, but thats not his style. I am more disappointed about his first innings dismissal. If he could stay longer, it would have direct impact on the result of the match:((
Jersey #10 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 You beat off transparent's 700 haha. PM me to say you incase I forget (cant do it now' date=' on phone)[/quote'] are you serious? :((
