India and Australia - Tale of two cricket boards.

This is the opening statement in Daniel Brettig's article titled "Can't bat, can't bowl, can't field" today on Cricinfo. At this point one is forced to think in what way India has done better. A cricket board run by politicians of extremely corrupt leanings and very little love for the game, an ageing team at the cusp of demise, no planning whatsoever for the future and the less said about accountability the better. Atleast the Australian cricket board manfully authorised a review and took swift action however how many can say the same for India? I believe we are going to burn in the cauldron of our own poor governance, does anyone feel different?

I hope we will get to see that here sometime in future. Until then, as long as we are led by unprofessional politicians at the top - we wont be able to break the plateau - regardless of size of cash-pile we might be sitting on.

The combo of politicians and other honchos running BCCI and other state cricket associations (Delhi, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu and several others) * will mean that quality Test level batsmen and bowlers will be a scarcity in India. Peeps like Kumble, Ganguly, Dravid/SRT (afterwards) need to get into Cricket Administration roles and make a difference. *PS: Writing this as a separate note - since BCCI and Admin is the main point above... Add to it the fact - IPL/T20 $$$ effect: Younger players just need to show up at IPL/tontee-tontee and bowl 4 overs a day or slog a few cowlashes to earn the millions - Where is the burning hunger for Quality Test match level fitness and performance?

Somebody in the board needs to be accountable for the money. I mean, if they havent spent it on producing some new talent( we havent seen any real talent ), new stadiums in smaller cities have not been constructed ( which havent ) , where is the money going ???

Agree with the OP. The point however is, wishful thinking seldom turns to reality. No matter how much we try to evoke the conscience of the people running the game, it is going to make no difference to them, unless they start losing their cut.

Ah, but the Aussi board are at least going through root and branch reformation. The BCCI is still looking at its navel. So I fancy Aus for the up comming tests

We won't have our game in good condition for another year or so minimum. You can't change the whole system in a few weeks. All us Aussie fans are hoping the right people get the right jobs and make the right decisions.

Point is, at least your board is taking the right steps, finally. It will be a slow process but it has been set in motion. Us Indian fans have zero hope.

Hope the selectors take responsibility and resign after the series.In most countries they would.Hope we get a chief selector who isnt alleged as favouring some speciefic sections say tamil nadu or mumbai players.
