What about festivals like Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi where people spend millions bursting crackers, building idols and submerge them into water which will again lead to water pollution, noise pollution and air pollution. All the money and food could have been instead donated to poor, isnt it ? Now dont tell me its a festival and tradition and all. These festivals could instead be celebrated much more quietly and economically. But instead we choose to over spend and waste a lot of money just for our amusement and ego. But I also understand at the end of the day, its the choice of people and this is a free country. Same thing with this event, its up to people what they spend their money on and nobody has the rights to tell them otherwise unless they are breaking some kind of law. Good post, i agree with u but see it from an economical POV - when it comes to "god", people spend without thinking much and that helps the poor who sell those small items. Flower, candle, firecracker and ganpatis is a huge business. One of my friends said to a pic with 1K devotees during Ganesh Chathurthi last time - "Vow, what devotion". I was like what about the traffic jam and someone who is trying to get to the hospital or some other business
