Then they don't know what is fast. This over does not look fast enough to be called fastest. Holding's spell to Brian Close looked faster than this.

He runs faster than some of the average athletes sprints. Atleast I might not be as fast when I sprint. And thats saying a lot when you are running to bowl a delievery ! Although I do not think this was Shoaib's fastest. I am sure I have seen him bowl faster. I still relish the balls he got Sachin and Dravid out . However, the other thing one can notice is his action does look quite suspect . As for Holding, doesnt look all that fast to me. Perhaps the camera work also got to do a little to it.

I read a ball by ball description of this over by Scyld Berry in the 1980s. As the following links show, about four of the deliveries had Boycott at a loss how to escape damage to wicket or body - one of them I remember narrowly missed his throat, another rapped his knuckles, another smacked into his thighs, the last one ripped out the stump. Dont be misled by the looks of it, Kim Hughes said in his autobiography that the Aussies told him that Holding's steps were so noiseless and action so graceful that batsmen had little to offer when all the sudden the ball sprang at them from out of his hand. Yup Akhtar is faster statistically but Holding was a pretty deadly bowler who was miles ahead of the Paki when it came to plotting dismissals.

My logic - I have noticed far too many of these experts calling calling some bowler fast just because of his reputation. So many times I saw Donald bowling in the 130's and all I would hear is - wow, he is fast ! Only once , in 99 WC when Srinath was bowling and the caption read ' Right arm fast medium' did Graeme Pollock say - Wow, I have seen Srinath bowling and he is much much faster that just a fast medium bowler. So, what I am trying to say is its more about impression than the real stuff.

In that Akhtar clip, Ponting survived that over and wasnt dismissed after another 81 runs were added. Ponting 197, Akhtar 1-74 off 16 overs.

Here you he is Ponting, one of the best batsmen ever especially against fast bowling, batting and looking clueless several times and then there was England, look at who batsmen are playing, very immaturish.

Ponting was clueless when he bowled well in that over and Ponting is the one of the greatest batsmen of all time against pace bowling and you are comparing him to those English batsmen.
