Blue Panther Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Sire' date=' he plays at No.3 for Mumbai in domestic matches.[/quote'] yes, but still, he isnt an opener. Thats like asking laxman to open the batting in tests when he was playing @ no.3 for india few years back.
Blue Panther Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Sire, he plays at No.3 for Mumbai in domestic matches. Edit - He regularly opened in the recent Emerging Players Tournament for India. http://www.espncricinfo.com/emerging-players-tournament-2011/content/series/516034.html Abt emerging players tourney, they had no option in 3 days matches. Otherwise anirudha srikkanth would have played as an opener in 3 day matches.
Crookbond Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 yes' date=' but still, he isnt an opener. Thats like asking laxman to [b']open the batting in tests when he was playing @ no.3 for india few years back. We need to clearly distinguish between Test matches and ODIs. It's not a great deal in ODI's. Moreover, he has regularly stepped up to the openers slot in domestic cricket when required. I don't think we should make a big deal out of it. For all that's worth, we may see Parthiv Patel get a nod ahead of him at least for initial couple of games.

speed_demon Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 It's no harm trying him out, we do have ajinkya, tendulkar and parthiv patel as openers in the team. We do not have many all rounders.

zep1706 Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 A tweet-- Now that Dhoni has become a doctor, Ravindra Jadeja has been included as the ad hoc compounder. :haha:
zep1706 Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I think he's been brought in to bowl a few overs as none of the batsmen bowl, but isn't there any other alternative?

His strike rate is not good for an opener. Anyway i will wait for my assesment till i see him to play as an opener against quality international bowlers.

Thats like asking laxman to open the batting in tests when he was playing @ no.3 for india few years back.[/quote'] Rahaane was an opener since his U19 days and for Mumbai ranji as well. Both rahaane and Jafer shifted to middle order firstly because to have a stronger and experienced middle order, secondly Rahane started batting at 3 because he was eying a middle order slot in Team India as opening was filled by Gambo and viru.
Crookbond Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Allright, but i dont have high hopes for rahane as an opener. Sure, that's your personal intuition and I respect it. His strike rate is not good for an opener. He has a SR of 83.3 in domestic cricket. Pretty good IMHO. Anyway i will wait for my assesment till i see him to play as an opener against quality international bowlers. I will do the same. I am unsure about him personally too.

Ultimate_Game Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Selectors had a golden opportunity to try out someone new in the series and they have taken a few steps back. First Dravid selected in odi/T20 squad and now Jadeja!!! What exactly is the thought process behind these selections? I would have been happier with Pathan, Rayudu, Uthappa, Manoj Tiwary or even Saurabh Tiwary for these spots.

Pak_Fan_4_Eva Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Jadeja's selection justifies India's recent 4-0 drubbing:hysterical: That's your bench strength (word 'strength' is an insult)? Seriously!?:nervous:

Seriously!?:nervous: yaaar selectors suck. they have plenty of options to try but again back to Jadeja. Jadeja has improved from past, but still they had to let him know that Team India spot is not that easy to grab again if you lose once.
