This is a real cricketing incident: -------------------- Many many years ago, batsman X, batting in a test match, edged a ball straight over the slip cordon. Realizing that its going for a four ( beat the slip cordon!), he promptly stops in the middle of the pitch and starts giving the bowler some lip. Meanwhile, his super-focussed partner, batsman Y, is furiously running up and down for all he was worth. He ran two and was on to running his third when batsman X, who's been standing in the middle of the pitch and trash-talking the bowler through all this, suddenly noticed that a fielder had indeed made it to the ball, barely pulled it back and was in the process of throwing it back. Panicked, batsman X turned towards his crease and ran back full tilt. It presented a comic scene, as batsman Y,oblivious to the unprofessionalism of his partner and singlemindedly focussed in running as many runs as possible, suddenly ended up running shoulder to shoulder, besides batsman X, both furiously running towards the wicketkeeper. They had both almost made it to the batting crease when batsman Y, realizing the impending disaster, suddenly wheeled and turned towards the bowler's end. All this happened in just over a second and now batman Y was running against the ball, which happened to be thrown at the bowler's end. A desperate lunge and batsman Y made it home safely. Batsman Y had run four runs all by himself but since his partner, batsman X (and the batsman on strike) had stopped midway on the pitch to chat up the bowler and ended up running back towards the wicketkeeper in the end, no runs were actually scored/added to the totals. Batsman X proceeded to get out the very next ball. What perhaps added the final tinge of comedy to the string of errors, is that batsman X was a tall & gangly fellow while batsman Y, his furiously running partner, was not far from Ranatanguna in physique. ============== The question- Identify the two batsmen and the teams in the following incident.
