I thought Gambhir was injured?

It was a concussion... it was clear from the beginning that it was not a very serious injury unlike Harby's (supposed) abdominal strain which actually takes a long time to heal. He could have very well played England ODIs and ended up aggravating the problem - instead he came back and recuperated. If he is declared unfit for the coming Eng home ODIs then all your criticisms would be valid. As it stands now, that is not the case. Gambhir has played a huge hand in two of our biggest international cricketing achievements in the last 4 years. He scored half the runs in the WorldT20 final and one third of the runs in our world cup chase, both played in high pressure situations for the country, not for his personal coffers. One bad series and the guns are out against him.
nobody is forgetting these achievements or questioning his commitment to the team. Its just that what people saw was that he was injured for the all important England tour and as soon as the CL starts, suddenly he's fit to play. IIRC he played in the IPL semis despite being injured.

If he had played during the Eng ODIs there was a chance of aggravating his injury into something big. There is every possibility that he got fit after that. The criticism would be valid if he again declares him unfit for the English home ODI series, which isnt the case yet.

I'm not saying that he should have played in the Eng ODI series when he had an injury. What I'm saying is that for a player who is so frequently injured he should not risk his injury by playing in such meaningless games like IPL or CL. We've already seen what happened to Sehwag and Pujara etc by playing in IPL.

As a fan, it might be meaningless to you. But for a cricket player - who has a limited shelf life and no security of future earning, it is a very lucrative prospect - playing cricket for a few weeks and get paid amazingly. More importantly, it keeps player's remunerations proportional to their abilities and their fan following. We have lost talent in the 90s to the scourge of match fixing. Higher pay packets reduces (especially upcoming) players' temptations to indulge in such activities. I am in favour of BCCI increasing the match fees of test matches - and atleast make it comparable to leagues like IPL. If we want to attract talent to the longer forms of the game - atleast make it financially attractive to do so

Yeah he was injured and now he is fit. I know' date=' what I a miracle. Who knew medical science had progressed to such levels. Back when I was a player, if you got injured, you basically bled to your death.[/quote'] :hysterical::hysterical:

Gambhir has proved all his "expert" critics here on ICF wrong by using CL as a platform to wonderfully come back to form!!!!!:winky: And he is also playing the Eng ODI series looking as it is at the squad!!! Does the respectable ICF experts still have a problem with Gambhir and his priorities?:icflove:

^^ Is there a dug out in ODI...If you meant dressing room, is non-team member allowed in dressing room as per ICC code of conduct? Was he in London that time? Was his injury not fresh at that time and may be more painful?
