The selectors have named two separate 14-man squads for the for the tour which begin on October 13. Australia will play two T20Is and three ODIs against South Africa followed by two Tests. Cummings is named in both the squads while Marsh and Wade are only in the squad for the T20Is. Mitchell Johnson has been left out for the T20Is while David Hussey does not find a spot in the ODI squad. Cricket Australia's National Selection Panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said: "We consider we have picked an extremely strong Twenty20 squad, which has a good balance of experience and exciting young talent. "There is flexibility in the squad to deal with conditions in South Africa as we continue to prepare for the ICC World Twenty20, which is only a year away." Matthew Wade gets an opportunity as a wicketkeeper after Brad Haddin decided to retire from Twenty20 while Tim Paine suffered a finger injury. "The retirement of Brad Haddin from International Twenty20 and the injury to Tim Paine, has given a well-deserved opportunity to Matthew Wade," Hilditch said. "Matthew is an extremely exciting keeper batsman who is very well equipped for Twenty20 cricket and we think he will have an immediate impact on the international scene." Hilditch said Cummings was named in the side as Hastings was ruled out due to an injury. "John Hastings was unavailable through injury. This has given a great opportunity to Patrick Cummins to come into the Twenty20 squad. "Patrick is a very exciting fast bowler and was one of the youngest players ever to receive an Australian contract this year. We are very confident he will succeed at international level. Regarding the inclusion of Mitchell Marsh, Hilditch said: "The squad also sees the addition of Mitchell Marsh, an extremely talented and exciting all-rounder. "Mitchell played extremely well on the recent Australia A tour of Zimbabwe and his all-round skills with bat and ball are well suited to Twenty20 cricket. We think he's ready for the international stage." Hilditch mentioned that Mitchell Johnson was left out of the T20I because he has been struggling in this format. "Mitchell Johnson was not selected for the Twenty20 squad. Mitchell has struggled in this format of the game to date. Most Twenty20 internationals have been at the start of tours and Mitchell has not always been at his best in these matches. "Obviously Mitchell has a great skill set for Twenty20 cricket and we are sure he will put a lot of pressure on us to pick him in the future in the Twenty20 team. "His place has gone to Doug Bollinger, who is very experienced in this form of the game and his consistent performances in Twenty20 cricket have led to him forcing his way into the side," he said. Speaking about the squad for the ODIs, Hilditch said: "With respect to the One-day squad, Australia has continued to be the number one ranked team in one day cricket over a lengthy period of time. "The team's performance in the One-day series in Sri Lanka was fantastic, but there have been two changes to that squad." He said that Cummings was also included for the ODIs because of Hastings' injury. "John Hastings is injured and Patrick Cummins has been added to the One-day squad. "It is an extremely exciting time in Australian cricket to see such young talent forcing its way into the Australian squads." Hilditch mentioned that David Hussey was left out because he failed to deliver during the tour of Sri Lanka. "Unfortunately David Hussey has been omitted from the One-day squad. David was picked for Sri Lanka as we thought he would be very well suited to the conditions, being an excellent player of spin bowling and having the ability to bowl valuable overs of spin. "We did not think that David quite took his opportunity in Sri Lanka and his place has been taken by David Warner. David's form has been irresistible recently and he deserves this opportunity in the one day squad." The selection panel chairman also congratulated the Australian team for their successful tour of Sri Lanka. "The NSP would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Australian players for their series victories in both the ODIs and Test matches in Sri Lanka. "There are few harder assignments in world cricket than playing Sri Lanka on their home soil and the results were really a great credit to the playing group. "As we stated before the Sri Lankan tour, there was a quiet optimism about the group having come off three extremely good training camps prior to the tour." Hilditch also thanked former Australian coach Tim Nielsen. "Tim Nielsen and his coaching group have worked tirelessly since the disappointment of the Ashes and the coaching group together with the leadership and the playing group should be congratulated on their efforts in Sri Lanka. It is a very positive sign for the future of Australian cricket. "Lastly, the NSP would like to thank Tim Nielsen for his significant role in Australian cricket. Tim coached the side to victory in the most recent ICC Champions Trophy, the final of the ICC World Twenty20, and during his time in charge the side has maintained its position as number one ODI side. "While there have obviously been disappointments, perhaps one of his greatest achievements was the way in which the coaching staff and the playing group re-grouped after the Ashes culminating in the One-day and Test series victories in Sri Lanka. Hilditch said the tour of South Africa would be a testing time for the Aussies but he said the players will be up for the challenge. "South Africa will be an extremely tough tour. South Africa is a very strong side and playing them away is always difficult. "It will be another great test for the Australian side but we are confident they are up for the challenge," Hilditch said. Yes..I have seen him bowling in Big Bash last year. He is 18 year old and has already clocked 150K and consistently bowls around 145K.

Ya..Pattinson is quick and only 21. I have seen him hitting 90 mph plus. Hazzelwood is not the fastest, but he too can hit high 80s and only young. You know how Aussie pacers gain pace as they grow and mature with age like Johnson, Harris, Siddle, Brett Lee gained pace over the years.

Extreme pace the way ahead for Cummins At 18, Patrick Cummins is physically at least some way from reaching his peak as a fast bowler. It was a point Greg Chappell stressed when Cummins missed the A tour to Zimbabwe with a back strain, an injury that had its roots in Cummins' propensity for extreme pace. However, Chappell had added that, while Cummins was a few years from attaining maturity as a bowler, it did not rule him out for Australia duties. Cummins has now got his chance earlier than most would have anticipated, and will tour South Africa with the national Twenty20 and ODI squads. When he spoke to ESPNcricinfo four days prior to the Australian squad announcement, Cummins believed his rigorous pre-season training would stand him in good stead for the challenges ahead. His work-out regimen had extensively focused on developing the musculature to sustain his brand of bowling and prevent potential breakdowns in the future. "In hindsight, there was a silver lining to missing the A tour to Zimbabwe," Cummins, who is in India with the New South Wales squad for the Champions League, said. "It gave me the chance to have a great pre-season where I did a lot of weight training. I spent most of that time working on building my muscles, and I am getting stronger all the time." The back strain has not affected Cummins' mindset one bit, and he remains focused on generating the sort of pace and bounce that got him 11 wickets in the Big Bash, making him the tournament's top wicket-taker. He has chosen his fast-bowling role models well; he looks up to Stuart Clark as a mentor, and idolises Brett Lee, another famed purveyor of pace from his state. "In a sense I was lucky that my injury wasn't too serious [like a stress fracture], so it is still about going out there and giving it my all," Cummins said. "I want to bowl as fast as I can. If you try to fiddle around too much with the approach or the pace, you might end up with a completely different action." The pre-season training seemed to have paid dividends for Cummins when he bustled in for a lively spell in his Champions League debut. New South Wales managed only 135, but Cummins came out and hustled the Cape Cobras openers with real speed and bounce, on a track that was so sluggish that it had relegated Dale Steyn to a spell full of offcutters earlier in the day. One Cummins bouncer took off from a length, past an in-form Herschelle Gibbs, who weaved away in a hurry, and almost carried over the head of the keeper who had to leap up full length to parry it down. Another short ball harried Gibbs into top-edging a pull that carried into the stands behind fine-leg - hardly standard fare on Chepauk's lifeless strip. Gibbs was mighty impressed with what he saw of him, but advised Cummins to work on his variety. On South Africa's spicy wickets, he will be a handful even without the variations, especially in spells that last only four overs. 2 tests, 3 ODIs and 2 t20s? Wow. Apparently the series was reduced to a 2 test one to accomodate the CLt20. And they say BCCI doesn't value test cricket. SA have the upper hand and with Tahir in the team, should be interesting how the Aussies handle him.

The ECB have done the same thing. They've got only 3 tests vs SA next summer. They will be playing 5 ODIs vs Australia.

3 tests are a must in a series. I dont see the utility in having a bilateral T20 series. Its fun only when played in a cup like the World T20 or domestic leagues.

I still cant believe that they reduce 1 test to make this a 2 Test series....& also that ECB made their home series against SA a 3 test series from 4. Really sad to see the chance for good Test cricket lose against useless ODI's & T20 Intl matches. SA will play 3 T20 against Eng in that series.

It's all a strategy. They will likely win 1 out of 3 test match, which should be enough to hang onto #1 spot. If they lose 3 out of 4 then.......
