Gambhir has already pushed his luck. He has not done nearly enough to be considered an 'elite' player by any stretch of the imagination. Yet he gets royal treatment. But just because he played a brilliant knock to win us the WC final, and has done the hard yards in indian domestic cricket prior to that I am willing to cut him some slack. However, if he keeps up this nonsense of getting injured on convenience then he should recieve a similar kick to his concussed ar$e just like darty singh did today.

Sachin is not even in MI squad but he's sitting in balcony in MI jersey and cheering them. I really wonder will he really do the same in Eng series. Man! Go and watch the India-Australia series in 2004. After that, players are not allowed to stay with the squad unless they're undergoing treatment in the city.

Premature criticism seems to have become the norm on ICF these days. Dhoni has been picked in the side. As of now he IS playing the England ODI series. Reserve the criticism after he is actually rested. Gambhir was injured in England and he got fit after that. He isnt skipping the ODI series for champions league. Sachin isnt even playing in the Champions league and you guys criticise him for sitting in the dugout with the MI team. :wall: How many of you would give up a lucrative high paying job to come and work for the Indian government? Just because money is much less important than the country. Why should cricketers be judged by different standards? Why should they skip a league where they earn very good money especially given the fact that most dont have a solid education to fall back on after their playing days are over. Are they betraying the nation by fixing matches and deliberately underperforming? No - they are earning perfectly legitimately and well within their rights to do so. IPL and Champions league arent the problem, the unreal scheduling of 200+ days of competitive cricket is the real problem. After every tour there is less than 5 days of gap before the next one starts. The IPL and CL should be taken into account when scheduling the series, not fitted in between an already overloaded cricketing calendar.

Yes the top cricketers earn pretty well even without IPL - but they also face a lot of pressure to play in the IPL - whose financial performance depends on their presence in the league. A cricketer's playing years are very limited given the tortuous calendar nowadays. It is perfectly natural of him to want to make more money. Dhoni has played almost every Indian match except the Windies ODI series in which BCCI rested him. BCCI should improve the scheduling and avoid meaningless series like the Eng-India half baked tour at home. Each series should have decent scheduling with plenty of time in between for players to recuperate and also be complete - atleast 3 tests and 5 ODIs. Currently the IPL and CL are sandwiched like an afterthought which is causing the problem.

I have no problem with cricketers wanting rest - they have had a very, very tight schedule for a very long time and guys like Dhoni etc deserve rest but what I just do not like is cricketers playing in t20 and resting in international series' (instead of the other way round)

Injuries which happened in the England series 1) Yuvi 2) Gambhir 3) Rohit Sharma 4) Ishant 5) Munaf Clearly playing in the IPL are not cause of injuries alone. Its playing too much back to back cricket - IPL or otherwise. The problem which the IPL can be blamed on is Viru and Gambhir playing in last year's IPL delaying their rehabilitation from injuries. We clearly have poor fitness levels as a team, something which gets magnified when playing so much cricket. This has to stop

So why did GG play IPL earlier this year with a shoulder injury which needed urgent attention? He had to miss the WI tour for that!

The IPL fiasco is the reason why many doubt his credibility...he lost his credibility when he played with an injury. Now many will doubt his intentions
