NEW DELHI: Indian captain MS Dhoni on Thursday requested the BCCI selection committee to allow him some rest after a hectic calendar that has left a spate of key players injured. But the Indian skipper is leading the Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing Champions League Twenty20. The selectors, who meet on Thursday to select the team for the first two one-days against the visiting England. Moreover, the selectors have the trouble of finding replacements for the injured players. Tendulkar, who was ruled out of the last ODI series in England due to a toe injury, is yet to play a match in the ongoing Champions League Twenty20. Sehwag, who had hearing problems as well as recuperating from shoulder surgery, may also have to sit out of the first two one-dayers though there is still no clear indication on his fitness status. Moreover, the bowling unit is of concern as three premier speedsters in Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel are out of contention. The first two games of the five-match ODI series against England will be played in Hyderabad on October 14 and New Delhi on October 17. The other matches will be held in Mohali (Oct 20), Mumbai (Oct 23) and Kolkata (Oct 25).

This is not the first time when he has to ask for the rest.

Cricketers can opt out if they’re tired: BCCI

2008-06-29 19:17:50 New Delhi: India's ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni may have lashed out at the gruelling Asia Cup schedule that is taking a toll on his team-mates, but he has failed to move the Indian cricket board.

if he has asked for rest he should sacked on the spot. as playing for chennai and then wanting to rest for india is a disgrace
Exactly. From where does rest come into picture now? Bloody hell, could have easily skipped the useless tamasha cricket.

Well he missed a whole test series against sl for T20 club matches. At the time icfs respected members backed him fully. Wonder were those respected memebrs who abused me for lashing out at Dhonis priorities are now. The chickens have come home to roost now!

Surprised that Dhoni wanted rest, I thought he would wanna play and give England a thrashing. With this attitude I'm not sure of our chances in this series, he is being played forcefully.

He won the spirit of cricket award. Revenge and all is not part of his psyche.

Like other senior player, he should excure himself from the Tamasha kirket and take some rest. The was he was running hard for 2 runs in the hot atmosphere, it'll take toll on him. Looks like he's got his priorities wrong..

Is this request after BCCI announced the squad or before it announced the squad. If it was after then Dhoni has issues. Should have give atleast a week long notice. If he did give notice, then BCCI seriously don't give a **** about players mental and physical health

& why should BCCI give a **** about players mental & physical health...when the players in question themselves dont give a **** themself. If Dhoni needs rest...he should excuse himself from CL...& rest for 2 weeks. Gambhir recovers right on time magically to play for KKR...but will probably breakdown for a long period soon after the KKR campain is over in this week. See the picture.
