Good for him and hopefully the selectors will not blunder by picking this inept batsman for the test series in Australia.

Hopefully he only plays in that format.

I have no problems giving him accolades for his ODI/tamasha exploits, but the fact is that regardless what many people think he continues to be a feature in the Indian test side based on those (he played the last test India played). That is the reason of criticism - if the selectors are smart enough to realize that he cannot play test matches, he will be respected much more like Bevan. The same syndrome applies to Yuvraj.

The same syndrome applies to Yuvraj.[/quote'] Pujara was injured during the England tour so Raina/Yuvraj got a chance because there weren't many options around. Although I am a very big fan of Raina, I also think that he needs to improve a lot if he has to come into the Test side and we cannot just keep bringing players into the Test side on the basis of ODI performances (like we've done with Yuvraj and Raina).

It could be a recurring cycle that means he won't get his dues for being a very effective LOI player.

I agree that Rohit Sharma could have been given a chance but the selectors wanted to give Raina a chance before writing him off. He could still improve his technical problems provided he works hard on it.

And in the series before that (i.e. Windies) there were many senior batsmen not playing so he got a chance and he performed quite well so there was a genuine case for his selection for the England tour.

The same syndrome applies to Yuvraj.[/quote'] Picking Yuvraj based on the WC was a mistake and I said so at the time. Raina was picked in England because he did well in the WI while Kohli failed. It was basically a shoot out for a test spot. It was clear to see that he isn't good enough and hopefully he won't make the test team vs the WI. If he does based on ODIs again, then it will be clear that the selectors are bloody clueless. In any case, this thread is about his exploits in ODIs - a format that he is good in.

Oh! now even international ODIs are also considered similar to tamasha cricket ..:finger: noone claims him as the best test player. He is, undoubtly, one of the best ODI players in international cricket at the moment. He did deserve his chances in test matches. He has some technical issues with short balls, but I am sure he will get out of that and beciome successfull in future. Don't crucify him for his test failures in England, he was just a replacement for Pujara... :winky:
