JeffThommo_fan Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 IMO, in 15 men squad- 5 pacers, 2 spinners, 1 WK and 8 batsmen. In 16 men squad- 1 extra WK and the rest will remain same. 5 pacers will and should be- Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, UY, V Aaron and PK. 2 spinners- doesn't matter to me until we r winning. About pacers, these 5 should be picked. S Sreesanth and RP will also be the contenders and can be included if someone gets injured. Now, most important, SA, Australia and England are those places where we need to prove ourselves and these are those destinations which have given us some fast bowling sensations as well, like Ishant and Irfan in Australia, S Sreesanth in SA and RP in England. So, its important that we give chances to some new fast bowlers on this tour rather than tried and tested trundlers. We have toured SA earlier this year and somehow able to level the series there and we failed in England miserably. Now, Australia is the last chance to prove ourselves. Our great batting line up, Sachin, Dravid and VVS will not be there next time.

Will need to wait for the 3rd to see Ishy's performance. Hasn't been up to mark till now. Thank you mods/admins for Combining both the threads.

Don't know why people r so obsessed with Praveen Kumar so much. If I have to choose between Ishant and PK, I will definitely choose Ishant. He is much more taller, faster and more lethal with the old ball as well. My first 3 will be Zaheer Khan, Ishant and Umesh

PK deserves a run because he bowled outstandigly well on a disastrous tour, not only taking wickets but outsmarting the batsmen and bowling long spells. He should be in the squad. Ishant should have done well in Eng as he is a Broad type of bowler, but he failed as usual.

They would have to drop either Ojha or Ashwin, which would be unfair after their performances in this series. And Bhajji currently has an average of 188 in the Ranji Trophy.

Frankly tell me, when PK was picked for the England tour did you expect him to lead the bowling attack like the way he did ? Agreed, Australia pitches will be quicker, flatter, bouncier, but again as PK himself says, "Ek mauka to deke dekho". And mine was not obsession, it was purely based on performances. He deserves a go ahead if the current selection is between PK and Ishant (if he under performs even in the third test and the practice matches) else it will be unfair. Height, pace doesn't matter. Skills are all that matter.

Also PK has got swing in Australia in ODI's. You say he didn't win us a game? How can PK win a game when all the other bowlers don't perform and the batsmen don't score runs??? PK was the only bowler who won the respect of the english fans when I was watching, he was bowling well.

Praveen will get slaughtered in Australia if he is picked for the test matches. whats wrong with some of you ? you think abowler with a mediocre domestic records would have been drafted into the side if they dint like him ? Both Varun and Yadav could have been easily ignored considering they have less than impressive records ...clearly they are bein seen as long term prospects & even the way Yadav was bowled in short bursts in this test,they want to ensure that these guys are not overbowled . I picked Varun, Yadav , Ishant,Ashwin , Zaheer ...but realestically would it be smart to pick 3 bowlers with total experience les than 10 tests for such an important tour ? I dont think so

So, Ishant is a better option for Australia.[/quote'] Australian batsmen are weak against swing bowling and regularly come apart against quality swing bowling over the last few years be it Amir, Asif, or Anderson. Even on our last tour to Australia, as much as Ishant's spell to Ponting is still talked about, Ishant's returns were pretty mediocre overall. It was the swing bowling of RP Singh and Pathan which proved to be Australia's primary undoing at Perth. Praveen is amongst the best swing bowlers in the world today and is really going to be a handful at Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
