Wow. 20 MBPS :omg: Thanks for sharing this link. Is this for your machine alone or for an office? My connection is pathetic compared to yours, and I pay 999 Rs/month. But my ping (whatever that is) speed is still more than yours :haha: And I pay again for my Reliance USB net (~3mbps speed). Its better to switch to your provider. Does it have roaming or a fixed cable? :hmmm: At work we have a cable net, which is very fast. 5mbps, I think. I will do that test there too.

Holy, your connection speed is amazing but 10 GB is seriously low. With a 20mbps connection, it would get over within a week.

A lower ping is useful for video streaming and gaming online. But your net usage speed can be fast even with a moderately high ping.

I also have a 20 mbps leased line at work (1:1).. I just download stuff there.. And im pretty much the only internet user at home.. So it works out. Besides, im not charged overage charges (dont ask me any questions) For mobile internet.. I use my phone with wifi hotspot (21 mbps 3g connection) and connect laptop, ipad, etc to it. I already elaborated on my other connections in my earlier post... This connection is for a home.. Not one computer.. Ive connected my routers to it.. Ping is the time it takes the data to reach u.. Keep it simple, silly. :P Rather, which is better: 2mbps download, 0.4mbps upload and 76 ping or 1mbps download, 0.2mbps upload and 48 ping? Another question from a technically inept mind: Why the difference in upload and download speeds? In my case, its from the telephone cable. So, its the same cable for receiving and sending information. Why the discrepancy? It doesn't happen when I talk on the landline that I can hear the other person speaking very quickly, but my voice reaches after a while. Or does it? Same cable after all.

Lower ping is good, especially if you want to play online multiplayer games which specifically require your computer to respond quickly so others can play without interruption. In most other cases a ping value of 20-100 ms doesn't make much of a difference. Bandwidth is much more important for normal net usage. So the 2mbps download speed is better provided the ping is not something in the range of 200 ms or higher Also the upload speed is lower because of the technology used for phone broadband - which is ADSL. The speed is asymmetric - higher at the customer end and lower at the exchange end. So the bandwidth is lower for the data which goes from your modem to the exchange. Dont know the exact reason for this difference.

Its the time taken for the data packets to be sent to the (hosting)server and return back to your pc. The nearer you are to the server, the lesser is the ping. It means you have more time to react than a guy who plays the game who is located farther from the server.

More specifically, it is the max amount of data that can reach your computer every second. Ping is measured in Milliseconds. It is the amount of time the data takes to reach your computer.

You have one phone line. When you are on the phone, it uses 50% of the line for you to hear, and 50% of the line for you to talk. When you are on the internet, it is common for you to download more than upload. That is why your line is optimized to use, say 75% of the line for incoming and 25% of the line for outgoing.

I have stopped downloading (for the sake of it) for quite long, and still I easily cross 8-10GB. Few videos, few linux updates, 2-3 movies (I don't look below 720p, and very tough to resist blue-ray rip ;)) ..is all it takes to get to 10GB. or perhaps things are different at 20mbps :((
